Lors de la rencontre, nous allons aborder les nuances de style,techniques littéraires,détails de biographie de l'écrivain,événements historiques entourant la création du livre,péripéties de sa publication et sa censure.Ceci dit, notre format n'est académique ni sec. Chacun partage ses impréssions qui sont ensuite enrichies par les informations préparéés par l'organisatrice. Entre Souvenirs de la maison des morts de Dostoïevski et L'Archipel du Gulag de Soljenitsyne, L'Île de Sakhaline est un témoignage du bagne auquel Anton Tchekhov a eu accès en tant que journaliste du juillet à l'octobre 1890. Préférant jusqu'à-là ne pas s'engager politiquement, l'écrivain couche sur papier ses observations sur les conditions de vie et le traitement des bagnards. Il donne des détails glaçants sur les châtiments corporels. Le livre va provoquer une grande résonance et amener à une amélioration des conditions sur l'île. OU TROUVER LE LIVRE ? TRADUCTION D'après mes recherches, il n'existe qu'une seule traduction de L'île de Sakhaline en français, donc la question du choix entre traductions différentes ne se pose pas. VERSION PAPIER
