The annual Christmas concert of Choral Scholars of University College Dublin, titled "A Choral Celebration of Christmas," will take place at the Newman University Church in Dublin. Conducted by Artistic Director Desmond Earley, this festive event will span three nights, from Tuesday, December 5 to Thursday, December 7, 2023. The concert will feature a delightful program of choral music, including a new composition by Laura Sheils called "Magnum nomen Domini Emmanuel," performed by the Choral Scholars and accompanied by violoncello obligato. This piece is based on a text from a late-medieval collection titled Piae Cantiones ecclesiasticae et scholasticae veterum episcoporum. The program will also showcase a selection of season songs and carols from the Choral Scholars' third album, "Be all Merry," as well as works by renowned composers such as Francis Poulenc, Elaine Agnew, Ola Gjeilo, and Tim Stephens. Joining the Choral Scholars will be acclaimed artists Martin Johnson on violoncello, Tristan Russcher on piano, and Paul Maher on percussion. Prior to each evening's concert, there will be a pre-concert Mulled Wine Reception in the neighboring Museum of Literature Ireland, available for a €5 supplement. Dublin Castle has a long royal history and the attractions are worth visiting. The ticket price is only 8 euros (6 euros for those over 60 years old). Be warned, to walk all the way through takes about an hour and there are no busses that stop in the park- they only drive through and stop either side, but the park itself is beautiful and easy to spend that much time wandering in, the deer are usually in the upper end of the park after the cricket field, there are a few food carts dotted around and also Dublin zoo located in the park
