The Chicago Poetry Center presents the Blue Hour generative writing workshop, a monthly in-person event held at Haymarket House in Chicago. This workshop offers a unique opportunity for writers and poetry enthusiasts of all levels to come together and explore the art of writing. The workshop begins promptly at 6 p.m., with arrival encouraged anytime after 5:45 p.m. Led by facilitator Marty McConnell, the workshop will delve into a selected poem by one of the featured readers of the evening, providing inspiration for participants to engage in guided generative writing. Following the workshop, at 7:30 p.m., there will be a reading featuring two renowned poets from Chicago and beyond, accompanied by a brief open mic session. The reading will be followed by a community gathering where attendees can connect and share their love for poetry. While the reading is free to attend, donations starting at $5 are kindly accepted for the workshop. However, if cost is a concern, a fee waiver can be arranged by contacting marty@poetrycenter.org. The venue, Haymarket House, is fully accessible, with gender-neutral restrooms and ASL interpretation provided. Additionally, the space is equipped with a professional air filtration system, and masks are strongly encouraged for all indoor events. Limited free and paid street parking options are available nearby, including the paid parking lot at Disney Magnet School.
