Details

Announcing the Officially Unofficial 8th Annual Bridge And A Slice Half Marathon. Come get a slice of the pie... the pizza pie, that is! Join us for a half-marathon distance and slice of delicious New York City pizza in this running, biking or walking event, whichever your pizza-eating heart desires. Yes, you read that right. This is a half-marathon that you can use any method of movement you would like. Run, bike, walk, skateboard, roller blade, roller skate, pogo stick, segway, hover board, or a mixture of it all. Go at your own pace and enjoy the journey! We will start in Astoria, Queens, cross the majestic Queensboro Bridge, saunter around the main drive of Central Park, refuel with a free slice of 'za at mile 11, and jaunt along the new East River Esplanade with its amazing views of said majestic Queensboro Bridge, all before crossing back over and finishing strong in Queens. Waiting for you at the finish line will be some snacks and beverages, and a continuation of the good time you just had while moving for 13.1 miles. The unofficial and non-competitive nature of this half-marathon makes it ideal for first time runners... it's what we may call a Fun Run, if you will. Friends, families, and runners/movers of all fitness levels are welcome. Map and further details will be provided upon purchasing your ticket. FAQs Where is Packet Pick-up, Start and Finish? Packet Pick-up, Start Line, and Finish Line are all located at Dutch Kills Playground blacktop field (next to the roller hockey rink on 28th street). Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? No age requirements and no ID required. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is neighborhood street parking around the start/finish. The 36th Ave stop on the N/W line is easiest subway access to start/finish. Taxis can drop you off right at the start/finish. How will I know where to go? Link to a Strava route will be included in the confimation email and maps will be provided. Participants will hit check points at Dutch Kills Playground, Harlem Hill in Central Park, Brooklyn Pizza Master (1st Ave Manhhatan), The East River Esplanade and the FINISH LINE!! Will the course be blocked off to car traffic? No. Bridge and a Slice is an unoffical DIY Fun Run. Think more urban adventure meets scavanger hunt. Participants will follow normal traffic rules and obey the rules of the road. A bike lane follows most of the route and the six miles in central park are car-free. Bike Lane? Don't run in the Bike lanes. Cyclist on the internet are adament that this is a sin of the worst proportions. We recommend running on the sidewalks and riding bikes and assorted micromobilities in the bike lanes (i.e. e-scooters). We also want to encourage grabbing a bikeshare and supplementing your miles with cycling by simply downloading the CitiBike or Lyft app (no, we're not sponsored, it's just how we get around). Do I get a medal? Heck yeah you do! It'll probably have a pizza on it. Information Source: BAAS Road Runners | eventbrite
