In today's post-civil rights era, a diverse range of groups, from women's rights activists to LGBTQ coalitions, are making civil rights claims similar to those of Black civil rights activists in the 1960s. However, there has been a shift in recent decades, with white right-wing social movements claiming the collective memory of civil rights to portray themselves as oppressed minorities. This transformation of collective memory has far-reaching consequences, distorting history and posing a threat to multicultural democracy.

Hajar Yazdiha, an Assistant Professor of Sociology at USC, has extensively researched this reimagining of the civil rights movement from 1980 to the present. She uncovers how the public memory of Martin Luther King and civil rights has been distorted, perpetuating racial inequality and evading social reality. Her work, "The Struggle for the People's King," provides a powerful and persuasive analysis of the fracture in our collective understanding of our past, present, and future.

Amber Payne, an award-winning journalist and storyteller, will also be present at the event. As the founding co-editor in chief of The Emancipator, a digital publication focused on addressing structural racism, Payne brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective to the discussion.

Now this is the terminal of Boston&#39;s Freedom Trail. If the weather is good, you can walk all the way from Boston Park~
The only way to get to the top of the monument is to climb the stairs
There are a total of 294 steps, and numbers are marked every few steps, so that people who are panting and climbing the stairs can have a number in mind

There is actually only a small space on the top of the monument, but looking out through the small windows on all four sides, I immediately feel that climbing the stairs is worth it~
