Bibliotheekcollege: Ontdek The Waiting City Kunstenaar Merel Smitt bracht de afgelopen maanden door in de bieb om de wachtervaringen van Rotterdammers te onderzoeken. Voor haar projectThe Waiting City verzamelde ze verhalen over hoe mensen wachten, wat ze voelen, en hoe ze hun wachttijd draaglijk – of zelfs bijzonder – maken. Inmiddels is Merel in de afrondende fase en neemt ze je in dit bibliotheekcollege mee in haar onderzoek. Ze deelt de mooie en inspirerende verhalen die ze heeft opgehaald en geeft een exclusieve preview van de plattegrond van The Waiting City: een kunstwerk waarin deze ervaringen samenkomen en dat later beschikbaar zal zijn. Op de plattegrond ontdek je een verzameling van verschillende wachtervaringen die je verder kunt verkennen. Tijdens het college laat Merel zien hoe ze tot de kern van een wachtervaring komt door deze laag voor laag te ontleden. Ze gaat in op de feiten: waar en hoe wacht je? Maar ook op de emoties die tijdens het wachten naar boven komen en de diepere reflecties die daaruit voortvloeien. Wachten blijkt niet alleen een alledaagse handeling, maar ook een spiegel die onze visie op de maatschappij weerspiegelt. Ten slotte werpen we een blik op het hoopvolle aspect van een wachtervaring en stellen we de vraag: hoe overleven mensen hun wachttijd? Merel sluit af met haar persoonlijke reflectie op dit project: wachten is iets wat ons allemaal verbindt. Met The Waiting City laat ze zien dat in alledaagse wachtverhalen ruimte ligt voor verbinding en onverwachte perspectieven.
