Experience the premiere live performances of new works by Meilana Gillard, Bianca Gannon, and Carole Nelson at the BAN BAM New Works Premiere event. This event is organized by the Improvised Music Company (IMC) and Moving on Music (MOM) and takes place on January 20, 2024, at the prestigious Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin 8.

Meilana Gillard, a talented and inventive saxophonist, will present her suite of music titled "Chasing Comets," which explores the cosmos and outer space. Accompanied by the RBG Trio, Gillard's performance will feature improvisation and different effects to create a variety of grooves and textures.

Bianca Gannon, a renowned new music luminary, will take the audience on a multi-dimensional journey with her piece, "We're all just walking each other home." Through themes of home and displacement, Gannon's ensemble, including Nick Roth, Neil O’Loclainn, and Matthew Jacobson, will explore the concept of finding "home" as an inner state of being.

Carole Nelson, a rare and undervalued talent, will premiere her new work, "The Last Song." Inspired by the story of the extinct Hawaiian Kauaʻi ʻōʻō bird, Nelson's performance will be a balance of composed and improvised pieces, delving into the moving tale of this extinction.

BAN BAM is an initiative by the IMC, aimed at supporting and developing the work of women and gender minority artists in jazz and improvised music. This biennial commission and development opportunity offers a platform for artists across Ireland to showcase their talent.
