Fleeing an accusation, Hurston embarked on a journey to Honduras in search of a lost Mayan ruin, a pursuit that lasted for an entire year. Though she never discovered the elusive ruin, her experiences in Honduras proved to be transformative. It was during this period that Hurston penned her final novel, "Seraph on the Suwanee." In a letter to her editor, she expressed that while she may not have found the Mayan ruin she yearned for, she ultimately found herself.

Sharony Green, an award-winning writer and associate professor of history at the University of Alabama, will be sharing her insights on this captivating chapter in Hurston's life. The event will also feature Erica Williams, a Black feminist anthropologist and assistant professor at Spelman College. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Green's work, and complimentary refreshments will be provided.
