Through over 80,000 black and white images, Ravilious documented every aspect of local life in Devon, including landscape, farming, everyday life in towns and villages, and special occasions. With a painter's keen eye, he captured the harsh realities and simple pleasures of farming communities in remote Devon, becoming a compassionate witness to the challenges of country life.
