Taking place on November 18, 2023, at Lombard Strength & Fitness in Lombard, IL, this event offers a comprehensive introduction to the world of powerlifting. Led by experienced world-champion powerlifters and APF/WPC sanctioned powerlifting referees, participants will receive expert guidance on technique, strategy, and logistics of competing in a powerlifting meet.

The event will kick off with a detailed explanation of day-of logistics, including weigh-ins, scheduling, warm-ups, and attempt selection. The rules and commands of the bench press will be explained in a straightforward manner. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice with competition equipment like a monolift. As this is a sanctioned event, each lifter will have the chance to take three official attempts on the bench press in a more informal environment.

The APF Intro to Bench Press Meet is fully sanctioned by the American Powerlifting Federation (APF). All participants must become APF members before weigh-ins and must have a one-piece lifting suit for all lifts. Weigh-ins will take place on Friday, November 17, or Saturday, November 18, and participants must provide proof of APF membership and opening attempts at weigh-ins.

For those looking to gain even more insight and training, Lombard Strength & Fitness is offering an optional training camp on November 4 and November 11. Led by their knowledgeable staff, participants will learn the basics of bench press for powerlifting competitions, including proper form and the specific requirements for a legal lift in a sanctioned competition.
