We are so excited to welcome artist and author Anna Marie Tendler into the store for a signing of Men Have Called Her Crazy, a powerful memoir that reckons with mental health as well as the insidious ways men impact the lives of women. The signing will take place at our Center City Philadelphia location on Monday, November 18th at 5pm EST. The author will only sign copies of the book - no art, ephemera, or other items will be signed. You may take candid pictures while in line or selfies while your book is being signed, but no additional posed photos with the author will be permitted. No covid restrictions will be in place, but the author will be masked. She holds a master’s degree in costume studies from New York University. She lives in Connecticut with her three cats, Chimney, Moon, and Butter. About Men Have Called Her CrazyIn early 2021, popular artist Anna Marie Tendler checked herself into a psychiatric hospital following a year of crippling anxiety, depression, and self-harm. Over two weeks, she underwent myriad psychological tests, participated in numerous therapy sessions, connected with fellow patients and experienced profound breakthroughs, such as when a doctor noted, “There is a you inside that feels invisible to those looking at you from the outside.”
In Men Have Called Her Crazy, Tendler recounts her hospital experience as well as pivotal moments in her life that preceded and followed. As the title suggests, many of these moments are impacted by men: unrequited love in high school; the twenty-eight-year-old she lost her virginity to when she was sixteen; the frustrations and absurdities of dating in her mid-thirties; and her decision to freeze her eggs as all her friends were starting families.
This stunning literary self-portrait examines the unreasonable expectations and pressures women face in the 21st century. Yet overwhelming and despairing as that can feel, Tendler ultimately offers a message of hope. Early in her stay in the hospital, she says, “My wish for myself is that one day I’ll reach a place where I can face hardship without trying to destroy myself.” By the end of the book, she fulfills that wish.

Philadelphia was once the capital of the United States, so there is plenty of history, museums, monuments, and sites around the city. The Philadelphia Museum of Art boasts a nice array of exhibits. I visited on a Friday evening after work because museum admission is free Friday evenings (pay what you wish). I did pay for parking at their garage, which was only $5.

I feel that the attractions in downtown Philadelphia are really excellent. The historic sites near the Liberty Bell are under the unified management of National Park. Opposite the Liberty Bell is a large visitor center where you can consult Philadelphia&#39;s travel guide. The staff and volunteers here are also very enthusiastic to help give travel advice and answer consultation questions. There is also a small souvenir shop here, where you can buy refrigerator magnets, notebooks, postcards and other related Philadelphia souvenirs.

There are also exhibition explanations in the visitor center. Although it is relatively miniature compared to the museum, it still does not affect the number of tourists here. If you come by car, there is a parking lot in the basement of the Independence Hall Visitor Center for everyone to park. Although parking in the city center of Philadelphia is not very convenient and parking spaces are not easy to find, it is recommended that everyone park in the underground parking lot of the visitor center. If you come during the peak season, you need to apply for the ticket to the Independence Hall at the visitor center first, but I don&rsquo;t know if it is because of the epidemic. You don&rsquo;t need to take a ticket when you come, you can go directly to visit.
