We are so excited to welcome artist and author Anna Marie Tendler into the store for a signing of Men Have Called Her Crazy, a powerful memoir that reckons with mental health as well as the insidious ways men impact the lives of women. The signing will take place at our Center City Philadelphia location on Tuesday, October 24th at 5pm EST. The author will only sign copies of the book - no art, ephemera, or other items will be signed. You may take candid pictures while in line or selfies while your book is being signed, but no additional posed photos with the author will be permitted.  No covid restrictions will be in place, but the author will be masked. We ask that all attendees register for a ticket through Eventbrite and purchase their copy of the book at our Center City Philadelphia location. Books will be available for purchase prior to and during the event. She holds a master’s degree in costume studies from New York University. She lives in Connecticut with her three cats, Chimney, Moon, and Butter. About Men Have Called Her CrazyIn early 2021, popular artist Anna Marie Tendler checked herself into a psychiatric hospital following a year of crippling anxiety, depression, and self-harm. Over two weeks, she underwent myriad psychological tests, participated in numerous therapy sessions, connected with fellow patients and experienced profound breakthroughs, such as when a doctor noted, “There is a you inside that feels invisible to those looking at you from the outside.”
In Men Have Called Her Crazy, Tendler recounts her hospital experience as well as pivotal moments in her life that preceded and followed. As the title suggests, many of these moments are impacted by men: unrequited love in high school; the twenty-eight-year-old she lost her virginity to when she was sixteen; the frustrations and absurdities of dating in her mid-thirties; and her decision to freeze her eggs as all her friends were starting families.
This stunning literary self-portrait examines the unreasonable expectations and pressures women face in the 21st century. Yet overwhelming and despairing as that can feel, Tendler ultimately offers a message of hope. Early in her stay in the hospital, she says, “My wish for myself is that one day I’ll reach a place where I can face hardship without trying to destroy myself.” By the end of the book, she fulfills that wish.

Philadelphia was once the capital of the United States, so there is plenty of history, museums, monuments, and sites around the city. The Philadelphia Museum of Art boasts a nice array of exhibits. I visited on a Friday evening after work because museum admission is free Friday evenings (pay what you wish). I did pay for parking at their garage, which was only $5.

I feel that the attractions in downtown Philadelphia are really excellent. This monument near the Freedom Bell is unified and managed by National Park. Opposite the Freedom Bell is a large visitor center. Here you can consult the travel guide for Philadelphia. The staff and volunteers here are also very enthusiastic. Help to give travel advice and answer consultation questions. There is also a small souvenir shop here, you can buy refrigerator stickers, books, postcards and other related Philadelphia souvenirs. There is also an exhibition in the visitor center. Although it will be more mini-pocket than the museum, it still does not affect the number of tourists here. If you come by car, there is also a parking lot on the ground floor of the independent palace visitor center for everyone to park. Although parking in downtown Philadelphia is not very convenient, parking spaces are not very easy to find. I recommend everyone to come to the underground parking lot of the visitor center to park. If you come in peak season, you need to come to the visitor center to apply for the ticket for the visit of the Independence Palace first, but I don&rsquo;t know if it&rsquo;s because of the epidemic. You don&rsquo;t need to get a ticket when you come. You can enter the visit directly.
