Valerie Troutt Projects (VTP) presents "Ancestors Day: Celebrating Black Lives that have gone on before us" at 809 37th St, Oakland, CA 94608 on February 19, 2024. This event aims to honor and uplift the beloved members of the Black family and community who have passed away and become Ancestors. Through a gathering filled with storytelling and live performances, attendees will have the opportunity to share the stories of their loved ones. Valerie Troutt and her friends will provide live music, poet Joyce Lee will offer her inspiring words, DJ Nina Sol will set the ambiance, and visual artist Valerie Brown-Troutt will showcase her art. In addition, there will be an altar of Ancestor candles made by VTP and other participants, creating a sacred space. Anyone interested can make their own Ancestors Candle on the day of the event, with all materials provided for $25. For those who prefer a candle prepared by VTP, special orders are available for $30. General admission tickets are priced at $15, and light refreshments will be available.
