An Afternoon of South Asian Home Cooking!
"You eat with your eyes first!"
Such was the inspirational advice that our chef for the afternoon, Zainab Magdon- Ismail, received from her mother and grandmother when she was a young girl growing up in Sri Lanka. The beloved family matriarchs, shared with Zainab the flavorful secrets to the cherished recipes, passed down through the generations of her South Asian family. Flavorful secrets that to this day fuel Zainab's passion and flair for food, entertaining and cooking.
The Sri-Lankan native may have left the beautiful island of her birth, but she brought that passion for food, instilled in her as a child, to the Capital Region, where she lives today. A healthcare professional by day, raising four children with her husband, Zainab finds her true calling cooking and entertaining for others.
"I like to think of myself as a Sri Lankan Ina Garten", says Zainab. "You can often find me with a spring of cilantro, some slices of colored peppers or red onions garnishing dishes at the hundredth minute. I simply love it!", she adds.

The culinary adventure will begin with delectable Chicken Lettuce Wraps as our starter, followed by mouth-watering Sri Lankan Devilled Beef, Fried Rice and Stir-Fried Vegetables for the main course. The feast will be capped off with Vanilla Ice Cream topped with Lychee Fruit & Sauce for dessert!
