Experience the electrifying solo show, American Body, written and performed by the talented Deonna Kelli Sayed. This captivating performance, directed by Nichole Lungerhausen, will take place at the Stephen D. Hyers Theatre in the Greensboro Cultural Center. From October 12th to October 15th, immerse yourself in an unforgettable seventy-minute show that delves into the impact our bodies have on our sense of belonging.

Through the portrayal of eleven unique characters, Deonna Kelli Sayed humorously explores how size, race, the American diet, and ancestral history shape our bodies. From her childhood in the Florida Panhandle to wearing hijab in the Muslim world, Deonna's journey is a revelation of the stories behind the imperfect American physique. Presented as part of Creative Greensboro's Hyers Residency and in partnership with The Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, American Body tackles weighty topics like self-doubt and sexual assault with a delicate balance of humor and tenderness.

Please note that due to the mature themes discussed in the performance, it is not suitable for audience members under the age of 16. American Body is a continuous 70-minute production without an intermission. After each show, there will be a 10-15 minute moderated audience talk back, providing an opportunity for further discussion.
