The African Film Institute is excited to present the Amelia Umuhire: African Film Institute Film Series, curated by Natacha Nsabimana. This film series will take place at e-flux Screening Room in Brooklyn, New York on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 7pm. The series will feature two works by Rwandan filmmaker Amelia Umuhire, including her experimental short film Mugabo (2016) and her award-winning radio documentary Innocent (2020). Umuhire's films explore themes of trauma, identity, and family history, taking viewers on a journey through Rwanda, Germany, and Belgium. The screenings will be followed by a conversation between Umuhire and Nsabimana, providing a unique opportunity to engage with the filmmaker and delve deeper into the themes explored in her work. As part of the greater African Cinema series, this event aims to expand our understanding of African cinema and its significance in today's world.
