The story follows the fictional Surelikud and their struggle to maintain their culture amidst the backdrop of the Soviet Union and post-Soviet Russia. The protagonist, Rahväema Ranavutavskaya, becomes involved in the movement to preserve their culture and faces personal sacrifices and challenges along the way. Cameron's writing style creates a generational dialogue between the protagonist and a younger campaigner, adding depth and spontaneity to the narrative. A Woman's War, Against Progress is not only a political novel, but also a reflection on political activism and the sacrifices it entails. Allan Cameron, an experienced author and translator, brings his unique perspective to this thought-provoking story.
