Children aged 4 years and above have the opportunity to participate in a 4-day Learn to Ride course consisting of 4 one-hour sessions. This course is tailored for children aged 4-10 who are keen on mastering bike riding skills. It is advisable for 4-year-olds to first complete the Balance Bike course before enrolling in this program.
Throughout the course, kids will learn essential skills such as fitting a helmet, mounting and dismounting, balancing, steering, braking, and pedaling. The sessions will progressively build their independence, starting with seat adjustments and pedal removal for the initial three sessions. This method allows children to feel secure while learning and boosts their confidence.
The course will take place on four consecutive Saturdays starting on May 4th, from 2.45 pm to 3.45 pm, at the outdoor netball/tennis courts of Aylsham High School Sports Hub in Palmerston Way, Aylsham, Norfolk. Parents are encouraged to attend and observe all sessions to comprehend the skills being taught and support their children's practice. The cost for the entire course is £50 per child, with a small booking fee, and full refunds are available up to 7 days before the course begins. Participants must attend all four sessions and are required to wear a suitable bike helmet during the sessions. If needed, bikes and helmets can be borrowed for the course. Children should wear comfortable clothing suitable for indoor and outdoor conditions on the day of the sessions.

Children aged 4 years and above now have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive Learn to Ride course. This 4-day program, consisting of 4 one-hour sessions, is specifically designed for children between the ages of 4 and 10 who wish to learn how to ride a bike with pedals. As a prerequisite, it is recommended that 4-year-olds attend our Balance Bike course.
Throughout the Learn to Ride course, children will acquire the necessary skills and confidence to ride a bike independently. They will learn how to properly fit a helmet, mount and dismount the bike, find balance, steer, brake, and pedal. To ensure safety and build confidence, the first three sessions involve lowering the seats and removing the pedals from the children’s bikes. This allows them to learn the skills while having the reassurance of being able to place their feet on the ground if they lose balance.
The final session marks the reattachment of pedals, allowing children to practice the skills while also pedaling. The course will be conducted on four separate dates: Saturday, November 18th; Saturday, November 25th; Saturday, December 2nd; and Saturday, December 9th. Each session will take place indoors at the sports hall located in Aylsham High School - Sports Hub, Palmerston Way, Aylsham, NR11 6FN.
Parents are encouraged to observe all sessions to gain an understanding of the skills being taught and to support their child's practice outside of the sessions. The cost of the course is £50 per child, along with a small booking fee. Participants are required to bring their own bikes and helmets, unless they need to borrow them. A suitable bike helmet is mandatory for all participants, and we can provide one if needed.
Children should wear comfortable clothing appropriate for both indoor and outdoor conditions. Skirts and dresses are not recommended for comfort and ease of movement.
