Printed using an innovative disappearing ink to mimic the physical degeneration of the brain which can take place during the dementia journey, 4,4,4&2 maps the life of Maggie Watson – our close collaborator and dear friend, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia in 2021. A ‘living cookbook,’ the publication walks readers through early childhood recipes, savoury dinners, shared bakes and treasured family hand-me-downs – using the medium of cooking to not only share the standout recipes from a life very well eaten, but also to map the effects of a dementia diagnosis on an individual, and those they share their life with. Made possible thanks to the kind support of Custom Lane and the Culture & Business Fund, 4,4,4&2 launches across a week with a full exhibition and weekend of activity – kickstarted with the book launch and exhibition opening. Come an join us at Moonwake Brewery for an exclusive screening of Obakeng Malope's film Mamogaswa. Synopsis : I am part of the Tswana tribe , the majority of the people who live in Jericho and the Northwest Province are the Tswana tribes. This is due to segregation during the apartheid regime. When I was young 7pm was a time where we would sit by the fire and listen to stories that are told by my grandmother. The stories were mostly about animals. The stories taught us mannerisms and respect for our culture. There is a story that she and all the adults in my village tell to their grandchildren that is the story of Mamogaswa. Mamogaswa is a mermaid or half snake and half human creature. She lives by the rivers, dams and streams. As children we were told not to go play in those places because Mamogaswa is going to take us. When upset she comes out of the water in the form of a tornado storm and flies the roof of our houses away. Our grandmothers are beer brewers as well. They brew traditional beer . It is the role of the women to brew traditional beer called "Bojalwa Ba Setswana ". We used to watch them brew it as children. We would go fetch the wood because you cannot brew it on the stove you have to use the fire. As the old people are leaving this earth, there is no one to carry on the tradition of storytelling of African folktale and the traditional beer brewing. This film explores the art of beer brewing, specifically traditional beer brewing , craft beer brewing and the art of storytelling. We explore the myth of Mamogaswa. We show craft beer being made in South Africa Tickets are offered either on a pay what you can basis or ticket + welcome drink (2/3rd of any Moonwake Beer or non alcoholic drink) Proceeds of the ticket sales will be split between Film Director Obakeng Malope and Women in Beer, in support of more inclusivity and diversity in the beer industry. Fashion Design Cultural Experiences
This is not just a workshop about finding the “right” colours or the “best” outfits for your body type. This is a workshop about self-love and self-expression . It’s about saying: This is me, and I love it. Whether others do or don’t is secondary. But here’s a little secret: when you feel good about yourself—when you feel beautiful and confident—you naturally shine. And when you shine, others are drawn to that light, no matter what you’re wearing. Fashion should uplift you. It should never make you feel inadequate, out of place, or “not good enough.” This is where I come in. Together, we’ll explore your personal, unique style. This isn’t about adhering to beauty standards or following rigid rules. It’s about celebrating who you are, embracing your strengths, and even loving what you may think of as your weaknesses. What to Expect Forget the “flaws.” We’ll reframe how you see your body and talk about features instead of flaws. This is a journey of self-awareness, not self-criticism. Master the art of proportions. I’ll teach you how to play with cuts, details, prints, colours, and fabrics to create balance and harmony in your outfits. Discover the secret of the right fit. When clothes don’t work for you, it’s not your body’s fault—it’s the clothes. We’ll learn how to find pieces that fit and flatter your unique shape. Unlock the language of colours. Colours have the power to transform your look and mood. We’ll explore how the right shades can make your eyes sparkle, your smile glow, and your confidence soar. Revamp your wardrobe. I’ll help you overcome the dreaded “closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear” syndrome by showing you how to make the most of what you already own. Break free from fast fashion. We’ll talk about how trends can stifle your personal style and how to develop a wardrobe that reflects you , not just what’s “in.” Create your style moodboard. Together, we’ll design a moodboard that captures your unique taste and serves as a guide for your future shopping trips. What You’ll Take Away A deeper understanding of your personal style. Practical tips to enhance your wardrobe and make dressing a joyful experience. A newfound appreciation for your body and how to dress it beautifully. Confidence to express yourself authentically through fashion. And yes, there will be time for Q&A—this is your chance to ask all your burning style questions! Fashion Design Cultural Experiences
On September 19th, Greater Goods & Rab invite you to Behind the Fabric, a hands-on workshop at the Epicentre store in Ambleside. Together, we’ll take old Rab jackets that have done more than their fair share of adventuring and give them a second life - this time as personalised crossbody bags. With Greater Goods at the helm, you’ll have the opportunity to learn how to cut, reshape, and stitch the preloved fabric into something completely new. No two bags will be the same, and each one will carry the story of the jacket it once was - whether that was keeping out the rain on the fells or braving a few too many winters. Tickets are very limited and cost just £10, all of which will be donated to Kendal Mountain Rescue. Come along, have a laugh with us, leave with a personalised bag and a look behind the fabric of a brand whose roots are firmly grounded in repair. Information Source: Proper Mag | eventbrite
