Solo Connects MK We've had brilliant success with Solo Connects so far and we are delighted to bring people aged under 35 in person dating events, specifically for this age group. Some of us are old enough to remember going out to chat to people at the pub - a long lost era before we swiped our lives away on dating apps. We want to make this a reality for people under 35 - people are sick of dating apps and want connection and to hang out with fun people for friendship - and even the possibility of finding love. Sky Lounge @ Unity Place One of the best venues in Milton Keynes, enjoy stunning views across the city as you sip on delicious cocktails. Unity Place have an offer of 2 for £14 cocktails on throughout this event. Other alcoholic and soft drinks are available to purchase from the bar. What is included? Entry into our singles event to meet local single people - our aim is to bring as many single people together as possible and we do limit the numbers to make sure we have as close to even split of men and women as possible. No drinks are included in this ticket, you will purchase your drinks at the bar. What's the format for the event? We are pretty chilled - once you've registered, we'd encourage you to make conversation and introduce yourself to new people. We will run some ice-breaker games so that you get moving around the room (don't worry, there's nothing too cringey) and we will have some board games out too. Who is it for? These events are strictly for men and women aged under 35. When you book, we will ask your DOB and you will be required to bring your ID along to the event to verify your age. Please do not forget to bring your ID as you won't be admitted entry to the event and we won't offer a refund. Be responsible. We are in a venue that's specifically for our group, but it is a public space. Please take care with your drinks and don't leave them unattended. Please read our Member Safety Policy. https://soloconnects.co.uk/member-safety Information Source: Solo Connects UK | eventbrite

Derek Jones, Senior Lecturer in Design, will present a talk based on the following abstract: The Open University has a strong legacy vision: Open to People, Places, and Methods. This was articulated in the OU’s inaugural lecture in 1969 by Lord Geoffrey Crowther, the first Chancellor.   That was well over 50 years ago, and the vision is more or less the same today. But what is a vision in an organisation like the OU, and how does it work?   To answer this question, we’ll travel even further back in time and look at the work of The Rt Hon The Baroness Lee of Asheridge. I will re-introduce you to Jennie Lee as a designer of The Open University. In doing so, you will get a glimpse of how visions are created, shared, and owned between people, and why that matters.  This OpenTalk will kick off the Faculty of STEM's Freshers' events for the 2025 October module start. Alongside this event will be a lot of social media content and other events as well. You can see what events are on offer by regularly looking at https://stem.open.ac.uk/events . 100% 5-Star reviews on Trustpilot. In the one day class we start with an introduction to the basic ingredients, dive into what makes bread work and share some knowledge about dough. Then, we will begin working to produce a variety of breads. You will be introduced to mixing techniques and shown a couple of different approaches to developing the dough to make it useable. We will make several different doughs during the class and bake a great selection to take home. Learning to bake your own bread is fun and rewarding experience. It's a life skill and one that you can share with friends and family forever. Real bread is healthy and tasty and a million miles from the so-called bread you get in most supermarkets. Run by Smart City Consultancy Ltd and Code for Her. This exciting event brings together innovators, developers, designers, and data enthusiasts to tackle real-world urban challenges using the power of data. City Data Challenge. Where's the data? What format and condition is the data? How can you better understand and use the data? What data is missing? What is a Hackathon? A time-bound event where participants work collaboratively in teams to develop innovative solutions to specific problems and present solutions at the end. It's not just about "hacking" in the traditional sense; it's about rapid prototyping, creative problem-solving, and bringing ideas to life in a condensed time frame. Mentors will be on hand to provide guidance, and the focus is on learning, collaboration, and generating impactful ideas not about a finished solution. It is the fastest way to learn. All levels of experience are welcome. Data Sources? Have you ever tried to find city data, or share data? It can be hard to do so on your own. Let's collaborate and have fun scavenger hunting for data and sharing what we find whilst learning and building data skills. We will have Smart City give a talk about the Data Exchange and how to gain access. Why is Data Important? Data is the lifeblood of a smart city. It provides insights into how our city functions, from traffic patterns and energy consumption to public service usage and environmental quality. By collecting, analysing, and visualizing this data, we can identify inefficiencies, predict future needs, and make informed decisions that lead to better urban planning, more efficient services, and an enhanced quality of life for all residents. Data empowers us to understand our city's pulse and design solutions that are truly evidence-based and effective. Information Source: Code For Her | eventbrite

How Speed Dating Works in Milton Keynes When you arrive at the Milton Keynes venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date. You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't. At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day. Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches. Post Event No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. Shifting Power in Language Learning and Applied Linguistics with GenAI | The Open University

Cultural Experiences
This hybrid event will bring together cutting-edge research, innovative practices, and theoretical perspectives on the ethical and responsible integration of AI in the learning and teaching of languages and cultures and applied linguistics. The conference theme draws inspiration from the Shifting Powers project which itself was inspired by the thinking of Pratyusha Kalluri of the Radical AI Network . Asking whether AI is good or fair is not the right question, she holds. We have to look at how it “shifts power”, ideally, as we propose for our context, in the direction of the languages and (applied) linguistics learners. The event will be highly relevant for researchers, educators, learners and other languages and applied linguistics practitioners alike. The primary language of the conference will be English, and proposals should be submitted in English. However, in alignment with the Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Access (EDIA) principles that underpin this event, we encourage the inclusive and innovative use of multiple languages within conference sessions. Please note that interpretation/translation services will not be provided. All abstract submissions, however, should be in English and will undergo a double-blind peer review process. Authors will be notified of acceptance in time to register by the registration deadline. The ticket will allow user to particate at the 2 day conference on Thursday 13 November 12-5pm and Friday 14 November 10am-4pm. Both in-person and virtual attendance will be available. One of the parallel strands will be completely online and open to both online and onsite attendees. The remaining parallel strands will be onsite and open to onsite attendees only.
