Musical Arts
Fellow Norwich music lovers, we're thrilled to bring something truly special to our beautiful city this autumn—a magical evening of Indian classical ragas at our beloved Assembly House on September 19th. As part of this year's Kala Festival, we've arranged an intimate double bill that shows how traditional Indian music can speak to us all, regardless of cultural background: Norwich has rarely heard anything like pianist Deepak Shah's imaginative takes on ancient Indian ragas. His delicate piano work, paired with Saleel Tambe's hypnotic tabla rhythms, creates a heartfelt bridge between East and West. If you've ever enjoyed the piano performances at our local venues, prepare for something that will expand your musical horizons. After the break, we welcome the extraordinary Pundit Debasis Chakroborty, whose Indian slide guitar produces hauntingly beautiful sounds that seem to float through the historic rooms of The Assembly House. With him, we have Ustad Akram Khan on Tabla, 7th Generation exponent of the Ajrara Gharana, considered to be one of the six main traditional schools of tabla in India This isn't just a concert—it's a chance for our community to experience something unique in our city centre. Bring friends, make an evening of it, and add another memorable night to our rich local culture. Doors open at 6:00, and music starts at 6:30. Between sets, there will be time to chat with fellow music lovers over refreshments. See you there, Norwich! ^^ A video from the archive (Kala Festival 2023) Information Source: KalaSudha | eventbrite

Celebration
This Autumn you're invited to join us for a cosy evening within the Victorian glasshouse at Carrow House as we celebrate the seasonal festival of Mabon (Autumn Equinox) with a creative ritual to welcome in Autumn. This two hour session will include a creative nature activity, grounding techniques, seasonal reflections, homemade seasonal treats and hot drinks, see details below: Using foraged foliage and berries from local hedgerows along with aromatic herbs and ethereal grasses, make a wild moon wreath and enjoy an evening of seasonal rituals to welcome in the cosy season. Connect with the changing of the seasons as we create natural moon decorations as a way to reflect and give thanks for the fruits of Summer's growth, slowing the pace as we reach a time of balance between dark and light and prepare for the Winter months ahead of us. This experince is open to any skill level as we will guide you through the creation of your wild and wonderful moon wreath. Creativity and playfullness is at the heart of all we do and we encourage experimentation through your approach to creating the shape of your moon and your choice of materials (we love seeing everyone's personalities emerging from their creations). This is about finding flow, not perfection and the chance to connect with nature in the company of like-minded souls. If you’ve been craving rhythm, creativity, and a deeper connection with nature, yourself and other wild souls, we’d love to rewild with you! * Please Note - Early bird tickets are available for a limited time, see ticket page for options * Information Source: Rewilding Studio | eventbrite

The Magic Es play melodic rock ‘n’ roll with “sounds of early Brit-pop and mod-rock through building melodies and wonderfully textured sounds.” (Anthem Review). Their influences range from bands like The Who, The Clash and The Small Faces via 90’s indie such as The Stone Roses, Oasis, Ride and The Charlatans whilst comparisons have often been made to Bruce Springsteen, Teenage Fanclub, The Gaslight Anthem and The Jam. Since forming in 2014, Pete Thompson (vocals/guitar), Jasper Stainthorpe (Bass - Ex Then Jerico founder member) and Stuart Catchpole (drums) have released 3 albums and a string of singles, gaining worldwide radio play and critical acclaim. Henry Lipput of cooldadmusic.com named debut album ‘It goes on’ as his favourite album of 2017, boldly stating The Magic Es are “the best British rock and roll band since the heyday of the Gallagher brothers.” The band completed their first UK tour in 2018 and won over an army of new fans, their blistering live performances earning them UK tour supports with South Africa’s biggest-selling rock band The Parlotones as well as support slots with Pop Will Eat Itself, Echobelly, Wasted Youth and The Wedding Present. 2024 saw the release of their third album 'Junkyard Toybox', working with ex Abbey Road Engineer and Producer Andy Hodgson of Orange Tree Studios, resulting in global airplay. Hailing from the North West of England, Xentrix was formed in 1985 by guitar player Chris Astley. After numerous changes to the line up they signed with Roadrunner records and entered the studio to record their first album 'Shattered Existence' with producer John Cuniberti (Vio-lence, Forbidden, Joe Satriani). The nineties saw them play with bands such as Testament, Sacred Reich and pagan thrashers Sabbat. The legendary Tommy Vance of the BBC Radio 1’s Friday Rock Show brought them down to Maida Vale studios to record a session for the show where they performed a thrash version of the 'Ghostbusters' theme tune, which was already a favourite with stage divers at their live shows. Xentrix went on to tour Europe with Canadian label mates Annihilator, open for Brazilian thrash giants Sepultura and tour Germany with Alco-Metal outfit Tankard. 2022 saw the band release their seventh studio recording “Seven Words” Mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap and artwork by Dan Goldsworthy.
