Ruth Jones in conversation with Hannah Beckerman 21/05 1pm Heswall Hall | Heswall Hall
May 21, 2025 (UTC+0)
Heswall
We’re thrilled to announce an afternoon event with much loved actress, screenwriter and bestselling author, Ruth Jones, for her new novel, ‘By Your Side’. Interviewed by Hannah Beckerman, author , journalist and broadcaster. Linda and Levi will never meet.
But they’re going to change each other’s lives. In her role at the council’s Unclaimed Heirs Unit, Linda Standish investigates the lives of those who’ve died alone and tracks down any living relatives. She’s been a friend to the friendless for the past thirty-three years.
And now she’s looking forward to an early retirement. But before she hangs up her lanyard, Linda must take on one last case – that of Levi Norman Jones – a Welshman who’d made his home on a remote Scottish island for the past five years. What brought Levi here? And who did he leave behind? Obliged to travel (by hearse) with her arch nemesis Fergus Murray, and helped (and hindered) by the eccentric local residents, Linda searches for clues to a life now lost. And in the process unexpectedly makes new friends, and discovers things about herself she never knew. Bursting with all the heart and humour that has made Ruth’s name as a screenwriter and author, By Your Side is about finding joy in the most unlikely connections, and the importance of holding onto friendship, love and community – especially when life gets messy. Ruth Jones MBE is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing – BBC 1’s Gavin and Stacey, in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins, and Sky 1’s Stella. She has numerous other television credits to her name. Now, the author of ‘Never Greener’, ‘Us Three’, ‘Love Untold’, her new novel, ‘By Your Side’ brings us a joyful and life-affirming story with characters you’ll come to know and love, shining a compassionate light on human nature and why we make the mistakes we do. We can’t wait to welcome Ruth back to The Wirral. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to see her! DETAILS to follow of an evening event at Chester Storyhouse!

We are thrilled to be hosting an evening event with Javeno Mclean to celebrate the release of his book, You Are Not Your Limits. Javeno McLean is a British fitness coach and online content creator. He is best known for personal training with the disabled, sick and elderly within his community on social media. About You Are Not Your Limits: 'His joy from changing people's lives is so inspiring' DAVINA MCCALL On a summer's day in 2023, Javeno Mclean was about to train a young girl called Kiera who was recovering from a brain tumour. After chemotherapy damaged her nerves, Kiera was unsure if she would ever be able to walk again. With a good feeling about Kiera's progress, Javeno decided to record her arrival... She gets out of the front passenger seat of a car without any help. She puts one hand on top of the door and one on the frame before pulling herself up. I'm encouraging her: 'Go on, K-Boogie!' Kiera steadies herself, gets her balance and walks across the pavement to J7. I'm next to her, but I didn't need to support her. She puts her hand on the door ... and opens it. The video has since been watched over 23 million times. After leaving professional sports to run fitness classes in the local community, Javeno realised he wanted to be a different kind of trainer. He envisioned a truly inclusive health centre: one where anybody could come and be empowered to soar, no matter what challenges they may be facing in life. This book is the story of how that vision became a reality, what it's taught Javeno about love, community and resilience. But mostly it's about the people who came through the door. Who, with their positivity, strength and determination to not to accept any limits placed on them, have made the health centre the magical place it is today and inspired millions around the globe. There are two ticket types for this event: £16.99, includes a copy of You Are Not Your Limits £10.00, general admission. The price of this ticket can be deducted from a copy of the book on the night.

Gothic tale , with twists and turns that keep you awake....Sue About We Live Here Now: Award-winning author of New York Times bestselling breakout novel (and hit Netflix show) Behind Her Eyes returns with a haunting Gothic novel about a house―and a marriage―gone terribly wrong. After an accident that nearly kills her, Emily and her husband, Freddie, move from London to a beautiful Dartmoor country house called Larkin Lodge. The house is gorgeous, striking―and to Emily, something about it feels deeply wrong. Old boards creak at night, fires go out, and books fall from the shelves, and all of it stems from the terrible presence she feels in the second-floor room. But these things happen only when Emily's alone, so are they happening at all? She's still medically fragile; her postsepsis condition can cause hallucinatory side effects, which means she can't fully trust her own senses. Freddie doesn't notice anything odd and is happy with their chance at a fresh start. Emily, however, starts to believe that the house is being haunted by someone who was murdered in it, though she can find no evidence of a wrongful death. As bizarre events pile up and her marriage starts to crumble, Emily becomes obsessed with discovering the truth about Larkin Lodge. But if the house has secrets, so do Emily and her husband. And they live here now. Sarah Pinborough is an award-winning and New York Times, Sunday Times, and internationally bestselling author and screenwriter who is published in over 30 territories worldwide. KS2 New Age Kurling (SEND) - Inspire competition | Co-op Academy Bebington
Mar 13, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Bebington
The KS2 New Age Kurling (SEND) - Inspire competition is an event that aims to inspire competition and support individual development and character in the sport. This event requires all participants to be on the SEND register and should be from Year 3, 4, 5 or 6. The squad size for each team should be 5, with a team size of 4. It's important to note that pupils participating in the Boccia competition will not be able to take part in the New Age Kurling event.
During the competition, the game is played down the length of a badminton court, with the target circle placed on the junction of the centre line and doubles service line. Stones are rolled alternatively towards the target, starting from behind the first line of the badminton court. Participants must have a part of their body behind the line when rolling. The objective of the game is to get as many of your team's stones as close to the target as possible. Tactics can be used, such as blocking an opponent's path or hitting an opponent's stone to improve your own position.
There are specific rules to follow, such as removing stones that fail to reach the service line or hit the back wall immediately. Scoring is calculated based on the number of consecutive stones a team can roll closest to the target at the end of each round. Only one team scores points each end, and the team with the most cumulative points at the end of the final round wins the game. The number of ends per game will be determined by the organizer based on time restraints and the number of teams participating.
Please note that individual schools are responsible for their own first aid provision and should ensure they have access to medical and emergency contact details.
KS2 Boccia (SEND) - Inspire competition | Co-op Academy Bebington
Mar 13, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Bebington
The KS2 Boccia (SEND) - Inspire competition is an event aimed at promoting individual growth in the sport and fostering character development. Participants must be on the SEND register and should be in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6. The maximum squad size is 4, while the team size is 3. It is important to note that pupils taking part in this event will not be able to participate in the New Age Kurling Competition, which will be held alongside the Boccia event.
In Boccia, teams aim to position their balls as close to the target ball (jack) as possible. The referee tosses a coin to determine which team goes in which boxes, with the winning team using red balls or blue balls depending on the box. Each player has a maximum of two balls, and all players must be seated. The first player throws the white Jack, ensuring it lands inside the court and over the 'V' shaped line. An assistive device, such as a ramp, may be used if needed.
The game continues with players taking turns to propel their balls. If a ball is closer to the target ball than the opposition ball, the turn passes to the next player. If the ball is further away, the player continues to play their second ball. The turn then passes to the next player in the opposing team or the same team, depending on the distance between the balls.
The score is counted after all balls have been played. Each team receives one point for each ball situated nearer to the white jack than the closest opposing team balls. If two or more balls of different colors are at the same distance from the target ball, each team is awarded one point. Any ball out of the court is considered a 'dead ball' and is out of play.
Please note that schools are responsible for their own first aid provision and should ensure they have access to medical and emergency contact details.
