About Ioney Smallhorne
Co-founder of GOBS Collective, Ioney Smallhorne is a writer, poet, film maker and educator, born and bred in Nottingham. Ioney earned an MA in Creative Writing/Education from Goldsmiths University in 2019. She is also a spoken word educator working across the East Midlands. Ioney has been longlisted for the Jerwood Fellowship 2017 and shortlisted by the Caribbean Small-Axe Prize 2016. In 2020, she was the recipient of a year-long writing commission by Derbyshire Council and Writer in Residence for the Erewash Festival of Light. Her writing has been published in the Inscribe anthology Filigree: Contemporary Black British Poetry (2018) and in Nottingham Black Archive’s anthology When We Speak (2019). Her academic writing was published in the Leeds Beckett journal Story Makers’ Dialogues (2019). Her poem 'Yamaye, Land of Wood and Water' is included in the Crossed-lines Dial-a-Poem App via Google Play or Apple's AppStore. She has performed her poems across the country – a highlight being the London 2012 Paralympics. About GOBS Collective Nottingham spoken-word collective GOBS host poetry performances, workshops, events, book clubs, masterclasses and education programmes. We meet on a quarterly basis (spring, summer, autumn, winter) with various projects and opportunities rolling out throughout the year. We host our own showcases, publish anthologies, and have performed alongside Yomi Sode, Randolph Matthews, Casey Bailey, and Debris Stevenson. GOBS currently works in partnership with Apples and Snakes, Nottingham Playhouse and Nottingham Central Library. The format of the tournament will depend on how many players/teams get involved but you can be sure of a fun evening!! This is a beginner friendly tournament, that is open to ALL - whether you have played before or it's your first time. You can either sign up as an individual (and be allocated into a team on arrival) or select your own team and confirm the team name on registration. Both of our men's and women's first teams will be taking to the court in back-to-back Headliner weekend fixtures on Saturday 22 February. Support from Red Bull promises an extra special match day experience for spectators and we can't wait for another electric atmosphere courtside! Show your #GreenandGold colours here on campus to begin 2025 in style, and bring the noise to push our volleyball teams to more Headliner victories! The first match of the two at David Ross Sports Village is scheduled to begin at 1pm, with doors to the event set to open at 12.15pm. University of Nottingham Women's 1st Team | 1pm University of Nottingham Men's 1st Team | Approx 4pm The Headliner is an event series, hosted by University of Nottingham Sport and supported by RedBull showcasing our student teams competing at the top levels of university and national sport, and showcases the very best student-athletes in the country. Sporting Wellness This Headliner event will also raise awareness of our partners Sporting Wellness. Sporting Wellness is a registered charity that provides free professional mental health support for all representative sportspeople aged 16 or over, and our partnership ensures that performance athletes and scholars at the University of Nottingham have a completely independent avenue for professional support, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, alongside internal student services.
