Screenings
Join us for an exciting exhibition of new work by artists Alexandra Clod (Krolikowska) and Karolina Uskakovych at The NewBridge Project in Shieldfield. We are delighted to invite you to the preview of their latest exhibition, titled (Re)Grounding, on Friday 17 November from 4.30 pm to 8 pm.
As the artists explore the shared industrial past of the UK and Ukraine and its impact on the climate crisis, they take you on a journey from the industrial landscapes of Ukraine to the former coal mines and community gardens of the North East of England. Alexandra's series of work, entitled Katabasis, draws inspiration from classical mythology and focuses on the story of coal and its extraction. Conversely, Karolina's film Boots on the Ground, Hands in the Soil, along with an installation of flowerbeds, photos, and a map of Newcastle's community gardens, explores familial and spiritual connections to place through gardening.
This thought-provoking exhibition, co-produced by D6 and Kyiv-based IZOLYATSIA, is part of the UK/Ukraine Season of Culture devised jointly by the British Council and the Ukrainian Institute. The preview will begin with welcome speeches at 5.30 pm, followed by a paid bar serving alcohol-free refreshments during the first hour and a half. From 6 pm to 8 pm, alcoholic and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Please note that all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and the event will be documented.
The NewBridge Project, located at the Shieldfield Centre on Clarence Walk, offers full wheelchair accessibility via a lift. Large written signs will guide you to the Gallery, and staff will be on hand to assist you. For more information on accessibility, please visit The NewBridge Project website.
