This workshop is perfect for those interested in theatre, creative writing, and exploring climate issues. It's an opportunity to come together, explore your creativity, and learn how to tell stories about the climate crisis.
No experience in theatre, creative writing, or climate issues is required. All you need is an interest in the topic and a willingness to get involved. Previous participants have described the workshop as "nourishing, supportive, playful, and welcoming."
Wise Ram Theatre is a local theatre company led by Sofia Bagge and Molly Anne Sweeney. They create work on a national level that focuses on the climate crisis. Their play Decommissioned, which delves into themes of climate anxiety and hope, premiered at the Pleasance Theatre in London in April 2023. They are currently Associate Artists at the University of Greenwich and Artists in Residence at The Glitch in London.
The workshop will take place on November 26, 2023, at The Minories Cafe. Please let us know in advance if you have any access requirements or if you require assistance. The venue is step-free and accessible, and we welcome people who are neurodiverse or have learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
Limited travel bursaries are available to help cover the costs of attending the workshop. If needed, we can provide support with travel expenses. Please keep in mind that there is no parking available at the venue.

Are you aware of a young person aged between 12 and 16 who has a keen interest in the climate crisis and would like to participate in an engaging drama workshop? Wise Ram Theatre is organizing a unique Eco-Drama Workshop at The Commons, a welcoming community space and café located at The Minories in Colchester. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to play games, acquire theater skills, and create their own stories that delve into the thought-provoking aspects of the climate crisis. It's important to note that no previous drama experience or climate expertise is required; all that's needed is curiosity, support, and a desire to get involved.
Wise Ram Theatre is a local theater company, renowned for its national work centered around exploring the climate crisis. The company, led by Sofia Bagge, an accomplished actor, theater director, and drama teacher, and Molly Anne Sweeney, a talented scriptwriter and facilitator, holds the esteemed position of Associate Artists at the University of Greenwich. They are also Artists in Residence at The Glitch in London and have received a commission from UCL Culture’s Performing Planet Activism to collaborate with climate researchers. In April 2023, their play "Decommissioned," which delves into climate anxiety and hope, premiered at the Pleasance Theatre in London.
In October 2023 and October 2022, Wise Ram Theatre successfully conducted Eco-Drama workshops for young individuals at MAST Mayflower Theatre Southampton as part of their Emergency Season. Additionally, they regularly organize "Staging the Climate Crisis" workshops and networking events in London.
If you have any accessibility requirements, please inform us in advance, preferably by midday on Friday, November 24th, so that necessary arrangements can be made. The building provides step-free access and accessible facilities. We wholeheartedly welcome young people who are neurodiverse or have learning difficulties and/or disabilities. If there is anything we can do to assist you in maximizing your session experience, please let us know.
For those encountering financial constraints to attend the workshop due to travel expenses, we have a limited budget available to contribute towards these costs. We kindly request receipts of expenditure or confirmation of mileage.
The workshop will take place at The Commons, an inviting café and community space situated at The Minories. Please access the venue through the garden gate via Lewis Gardens, which is located between Firstsite, Curzon, and The Minories. Regrettably, parking facilities are not available on-site.
The week before the event, we will provide further details regarding pick-up and drop-off arrangements.
