The Bishopston Skatepark Project is thrilled to announce the continuation of our highly popular Free Open Skate Session for young skateboarding enthusiasts under the age of 16. Thanks to the generous funding provided by the Swansea Youth Bank, we are able to offer this exciting opportunity for yet another season. The event will be held at the incredible Exist Skatepark, located in the heart of Swansea, on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This session is perfect for both beginners looking to acquire new skills and individuals seeking to enhance their existing skateboarding abilities. Please note that this particular session is not suitable for experienced skaters. To ensure a safe and enriching experience, we will have experienced skateboard coaches and dedicated volunteers available to provide guidance and support. We kindly ask participants to bring their skateboards, pads, and helmets, although Exist Skatepark does offer equipment to borrow if needed. Additionally, the venue features a fantastic on-site café where attendees can enjoy snacks, beverages, and socializing. Many of those people who participated in art activities at Crisis found it increased their motivation and gave them the encouragement and self-esteem needed to move into education, volunteering, or employment. The ‘House to Home’ exhibition showcases the potential of creativity to transform the narrative surrounding homelessness and inspires us to consider the role of creative industries in our everyday life. This project was initially funded by The Oakdale trust and continued with support from UWTSD Widening Access Department.
