The Handstand Workshop in Portsmouth is a comprehensive 2-hour session designed for both complete beginners and individuals looking to enhance their handstand practice. This workshop is suitable for two levels of participants: beginners who cannot yet hold a handstand without a wall or have never attempted a handstand before, and intermediate individuals who can only hold a handstand for a few seconds away from the wall.
Led by professional hand balancers, the workshop will cover a range of balancing techniques and drills that can be applied to your own handstand practice at your own pace. Whether you're just starting out and want to kick up into your first handstand or you're looking to improve your technique and consistently hold freestanding handstands, this workshop is perfect for you.
In addition to improving your handstand skills, the workshop will also help you build upper body strength, enhance flexibility and mobility, prevent and recover from handstand-related injuries, and overcome the fear of falling. Participants from various backgrounds such as yoga, pole dance, gymnastics, calisthenics, crossfit, climbing, circus, acro yoga, and fitness enthusiasts have attended this workshop. It is also popular among fitness professionals like personal trainers, yoga teachers, and pole dance instructors who want to deepen their understanding of handstand techniques for teaching and practicing.
The workshop is divided into two parts. The first part, lasting 60-90 minutes, includes warm-up drills, correct handstand alignment techniques, balance strategies, and various handstand drills against the wall. The second part, lasting 30-60 minutes, covers additional themes such as cartwheels (used for bailing handstands), stretching and mobility exercises for handstands, and conditioning drills to strengthen the body for a stable handstand.
Throughout the workshop, you will learn how to balance with and without the wall, use correct hand balancing techniques to improve your progression, align your body properly for better balance and reduced risk of injuries, enter a wall-supported handstand, gain confidence in your ability to do handstands, safely bail out of a handstand, improve consistency in your handstand entries, prevent and recover from handstand-related injuries, enhance your mobility and flexibility, and, most importantly, have fun and enjoy the learning experience.
Please note that this workshop is for adults only, although some teenagers with an athletic or gymnastics background may be considered on an individual basis. The workshop does not offer refunds, but you can arrange for someone else to take your place if you are unable to attend.
