On January 16, 2024, at 7 p.m., Portland Press Herald staff writer Ray Routhier will have an engaging chat with Dale Arnold about his remarkable career. The event will take place at the prestigious One Longfellow Square venue, located at 181 State Street, Suite 201, Portland, ME 04101.
Dale Everett Arnold, a renowned New England sportscaster, made history hosting the Boston Bruins broadcasts on NESN and co-hosting talk radio shows on WEEI. His retirement from radio in March 2021 marked the end of an era. Arnold's impressive resume includes being the play-by-play announcer for the Bruins on NESN and calling Boston College Eagles football games. His unique distinction lies in being the only person to have provided play-by-play broadcasts for all five major professional sports franchises in the Boston area.
Arnold's broadcasting career began while he was a student at Bowdoin College in the mid-1970s. His talent was recognized, and in 1979, he took over as the voice of the Maine Mariners, succeeding Mike Emrick. Later, he joined the New Jersey Devils as their radio announcer in 1986, alongside Doc Emrick, before returning to New England two years later. From 1988 to 1990, Arnold called New England Patriots games, and from 1995 to 2007, he provided play-by-play coverage for Bruins home games.
This extraordinary evening will shed light on Arnold's outstanding journey, from his roots in Bellingham, Massachusetts, to his current residence in Brunswick, Maine, with his wife, Susan. They are proud parents of three children: Taylor, Alysha, and Brianna. Arnold's deep connection to Maine and Minnesota, where he grew up, shaped his remarkable career.
