Despite facing such consequences repeatedly, Tottie remained unyielding and unrepentant, capturing the attention of thousands of newspaper readers and even becoming a working-class sensation. Her audacity inspired imitators and even a music hall act. However, Tottie's story goes beyond mere infamy. She played a role in reshaping the way society dealt with individuals like her, defying societal expectations imposed upon women by men.
