Create your newest Halloween decoration in preparation for the fall. This design invokes the halloween spirit while being versatile enough to be displayed or shown off all year round. It usually takes a lot of time to make a Temari ball. This 2.5-hour beginners workshop allows you to start with the most fun part, using a pre-wrapped/pre-divided ball. No experience is required. Come join us and let's have fun! What is Temari? Temari (手まり)is a folk craft originating from Japan around 1300 years ago. Traditionally made in the form of "hand balls" given from parents to children on New Year's day. They've become a popular and versatile gift item while remaining a refreshing toy for children to play with. Additional information All materials are provided. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the start time to ensure that you are there for the start of the workshop. About the Instructor Asami Kusakabe 日本てまりの会 師範 (Shihan) Master, Japan Temari Association Asami is an artist who enjoys making Temari balls and drawing realistic portraits. A self-taught craftswoman, Asami has been certified as a "Shihan (師範)," or Master Instructor, by the Japan Temari Association (JTA). Alpha at BPAC starts on October 3, 2025 and will run for 8 weeks on Friday evenings. For the first one, we are going to meet at 6:30 PM to enjoy dinner as we get to know each other. For the rest of the weeks, we will meet at 7:00 PM. We will conclude Alpha with a special 2-Day event on November 28-29. Details will follow. Access to the church will be from the parking lot at the rear of the building. Tickets to Alpha are free, but you only need to get a ticket for the first one, so we can track attendance and you don't need to bring or show the ticket. This hands-on activity invites children and adults to decorate their own traditional Mexican calaveras de azúcar (sugar skulls) using icing, glitter, beads, and bright colors. BC Archaeology Forum Co-hosted by SFU Archaeology & BCAPA The Department of Archaeology at Simon Fraser University, in partnership with the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists, is pleased to announce the return of the BC Archaeology Forum this fall. The forum will be held on Saturday, October 18, at SFU's Burnaby Campus, the day after the SFU archaeology student societies' PalaeoOlympics event. It is our hope that you may be able to attend both events. The Archaeology forum will feature two to three keynote speakers (soon to be announced) as well as brief, lightening-round style talks from a variety of perspectives from those engaged in archaeological research in BC. Talks will be centered on the forum's intertwined themes of 'collaboration' and 'innovation'. We invite you to present to the audience on projects you have been involved with that feature success through collaboration as well as innovative methods or techniques that could be used to benefit broader archaeological work in British Columbia.
