We explore the outskirts of Broseley, crossing the fiery fields and looping back to town across the Deerleap. We head to Broseley Wood passing the old pipe works and exploring a few jitties to reach the Maypole, before returning to the High Street via the cricket ground and Cockshot Mound. We follow the High Street to the church where we can visit the tower ringing room for a bellringing demonstration and try some hand bells! Grade of Walk:Easier Length:3.5 miles Pace:Leisurely Terrain: Predominantly good tracks and paths. Some inclines and some sections may be muddy. Steps and Stiles:No steps or stiles on route. Dog Friendly:NO Walk Leader:Jane Warman Specific Walk Information: Stated finish time includes the bell ringing demonstration. Essential Information for Walkers: All walks take place within the Ironbridge Gorge which will naturally include uphill and downhill sections. Please come prepared for the walk, with water, drinks, snacks and lunch as appropriate as it is not possible to purchase items on route. Good walking boots/shoes are essential and be prepared for wet or sunny weather- possibly both in the same day! Children ( Under 18’s ) are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult with parental responsibility and be capable of the distance, pace and duration of the walk. Please allow plenty of time to reach your event parking can be tricky in the gorge! It is possible to reach Ironbridge via public transport but there are limited services. Medals are available for anyone completing 25,50,75 or 100 miles over 3 or more walks during the festival and if you complete over 150 miles you will receive our new Cartman Challenge medal – it has been done!!!

The walk begins at Broseley Library and takes a route through the quiet back streets ofBroseley. After crossing the Broseley/Benthall Road, we enter‘Jitty Country’. The Jitties wind along the eastern slopes of the Benthall valley. They date back to the 18th Century, and were built to allow access from the Broseley area to the mines, tile works and foundries of the Benthall valley. Some of the houses we will pass are squatters cottages, and have changed little since they were constructed. Many have unusual names, often reflecting their origin or local family names. Eg Pugh’s Jitty, Jews Jitty, Ding Dong steps.
After weaving our way through the jitties, we will return to the town centre via Cape Street and Duke Street, passing Broseley Pipe works en route. Grade of Walk:Easy/Moderate Length: 3 miles Pace:Leisurely Terrain:Paths and quiet lanes. Some paths are rough and gravelly. Steep sections. Steps and Stiles:Some steps no stiles.
