Get your StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Certification at the IronWorks Main Gym. This class is from Dec 21 – 23 from 11am to 5 pm. for $150, covering essential lifeguarding techniques, water rescue skills, CPR/AED training, and first aid protocols. All supplies are included in the course. Open to all base personnel. Limited spots available! This is a blended learning course, and online content will be sent no later than 1 week before the course and MUST be completed prior to the first day of class. Please note that participants are required to pass a pre-requisite swimming evaluation before they can attend the Lifeguard Certification Course. If a participant does not pass the pre-requisite, they will be eligible for a full refund of the course fee. However, once the lifeguard certification course has commenced, the fee becomes non-refundable if a participant does not pass the course. Active duty requiring American Red Cross certification, please contact the Aquatics Office (253-4966). Successful completion of the Lifeguard Course will result in the following certifications for one year: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED. Students must be 15 years old on or before the last day of the course and must be able to pass the prerequisite skills down below: • Swim 300 meters continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may use front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used. • Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs keeping your arms crossed and hands under the armpits. • Surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface. No goggles are authorized to be used in this event. • All pre-requisites will be completed at the beginning of the course. Youth Sports Basketball Season is available for athletes ages 3-15 to build technical skills, social development, and promote living an active lifestyle. Teams will practice twice a week for one hour starting January 13 – March 7 at Atago Lotus Cultual Center. Experience the thrill of the 35th MCAS Iwakuni Sprint Triathlon in Iwakuni-shi on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Organized by Competitive Events, this challenging event features a 350M Swim at the IronWorks Gym Indoor Pool, a 16K Bike ride throughout MCAS Iwakuni, and a 5K Run across the base. ISC Turkey Trot Fundraiser Join us for the Iwakuni Spouse Club's 3rd annual Turkey Trot, a fun run 5K for all ages and abilities! We are excited to invite you to join us for the upcoming Spouse Warrior Day event! Open to all spouses of MAG-12, H&HS, and all Marine Corps spouses stationed at MCAS Iwakuni, this engaging day is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13th, from 0800 to 1430. Participants will have the chance to gain insight into the Marine experience with activities such as the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP), Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer (ISMT), and Obstacle Course challenges. The event will kick off at 0800 in the MAG-12 Auditorium, Building 6000. Throughout the day, participants will be transported to various units to participate in planned activities, with lunch provided at MWSS-171. We encourage you to wear your spouse’s cammies or comfortable, activity-ready clothing for this hands-on experience. The event will conclude back at the MAG-12 Auditorium at 1430. To provide an opportunity for participants to strengthen relationships with their family members, friends, colleagues, and neighbors through fun activities as well as strengthen the bond between the U.S. and Japan. Teams of 4-15 Runners run a 1.4KM relay course for 3 hours and compete for the most laps to win prizes. Participation Age: 6 years and older Qualifications: Age 6 and older who can run a lap without parental support. Participants are not permitted to run carrying a child in their arms, on their backs, or using baby carriers. Jogging Strollers are not permitted. Runners who are blind or with disabilities are welcome to participate in the race and must have a partner to provide assistance. However, service dogs and wheelchairs are not permitted on the running course.
