An Evening with Ben Shattuck: Writing, Place, and the Power of Storytelling Join us for an intimate conversation with Ben Shattuck, award-winning author of Six Walks: In the Footsteps of Henry David Thoreau and The History of Sound. A keen observer of New England’s landscapes and history, Shattuck’s work explores the intersection of place, memory, and storytelling. In this special event, Shattuck will discuss his writing process, the role of New England’s environment and people in shaping a narrative, and the enduring influence of Thoreau. The Chaisson's - From Eastern PEI Kevin Chaisson , a highly-coveted piano player from Bear River, PEI, has deep roots in traditional music on Prince Edward Island. The Chaisson family have been widely acclaimed as being influential in ensuring that traditional music is passed on to future generations of Prince Edward Island. Kevin is a also a multi-instrumentalist and a prolific composer of fiddle tunes. Singer & Guitarist, Louise Chaisson-MacKinnon has a soulful voice and a large repertoire of lively maritime songs to share from all our favourites like Anne Murray, Stan Rogers and The Rankins, to name a few. We couldn't have a ceilidh without a fiddler and Sheila MacKenzie will take the stage to share the jigs, reels and strathspeys that so proudly been passed down through our collective Scottish ancestry to fiddlers all across Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island. Just wait until you hear the talant from our Mabou, Cape Breton friend, Andrea Beaton ! Andrea Beaton comes from a long line of musicians, composers and dancers. Both the Beaton and MacMaster sides of her family are well known and respected as some of Cape Breton's finest musicians, dancers and composers. She is an award-winning fiddler, tune composer and recording artist who is known for her powerful bow and driving style. She tours and teaches internationally and is in great demand as a teacher at music camps and fiddling/dancing workshops. She has released 6 solo albums, one duo album with her father, Kinnon Beaton, and 3 books of her original tunes. She also recorded an album with her family "The Beaton family of Mabou" in 2007 for the Smithsonian Institute. Most of her solo albums were nominated for awards, and her 2010 CD, 'Branches,' won the Canadian East Coast Music Award "Instrumental Recording of the Year! Andrea travels the globe, sharing her culture as well as exploring and writing contemporary tunes. Her music, dance and comical stories are sure to delight any audience. We will have a special Guest step dancer as well- you'll have to see it to believe it! Percussive, energetic and a huge part of traditional music.
