Exhibitions
Although Picasso never visited Cyprus, his relationship with Cypriot antiquities is quite illuminating. The artist learned about these artworks through the collections of European museums, such as the Louvre, and through contemporary professional publications.
The central theme of this exhibition explores how Picasso captured the forms and symbolism of ancient Cypriot art. This is not a simple appropriation of forms, but rather a profound fascination with the fusion and creativity of this ancient art style, characterized by the fusion of human and animal figures and a unique and expressive playfulness.
This exhibition features a selection of works from museums and collections across Europe, including a large number from the Picasso Museum in Barcelona and the Cyprus Antiquities Authority.
