Akishima Citizen Whale Festival "Dream Fireworks" | Akishima
Celebration
The Akishima City Whale Festival's Dream Fireworks, which began in 1961 to commemorate the discovery of a whale fossil dating back approximately 1.6 million years in Akishima City, has become a summer tradition in Tokyo's Akishima City. This year marks the 54th edition of the fireworks display, featuring approximately 4,000 fireworks (mainly starburst fireworks) that illuminate the sky over about 30 minutes.
Before the fireworks display, a parade featuring whale-shaped floats winds through the city, adding to the festive atmosphere. Around the event venue, stalls from local businesses and organizations line the streets, offering food, games, and homemade local delicacies. There are also a variety of stage activities, including action performances and live music, ensuring enjoyment for people of all ages.
