Ready to survive? Zombie Scavengers plunges participants into a high-stakes, app-powered scavenger hunt, transforming familiar Cedar Rapids city streets into a virtual, thrilling, post-apocalyptic battleground. Teams embark on a mission to survive by using their smartphone to navigate the city that is virtually turned into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Teams must complete tricky challenges, solve riddles, and gather (take photos of) essential supplies to stave off the virtual undead horde roaming the city. Each mission the teams complete will earn them points on the app’s leaderboard where they can see how they have done compared to other surivival teams. Players must communicate and strategize as they work together to find essential items around the city that they need to survive. Zombie Scavengers is a dynamic and engaging activity that tests problem-solving skills, teamwork, and a healthy dose of survival instinct, making it a unique and memorable adventure through the streets of Cedar Rapids. Zombie Scavengers is priced per team. You can have up to 10 players per team. Each ticket gives one team access to participate in Zombie Scavengers. Join NewBo City Market for our Summer Culinary Camps! Back for 2025 is Ms. Carly Hachey, a teacher in the Linn-Mar district with over 17 years of experience in the classroom and TWO masters degrees in education. She will guide our campers through a week full of food-based learning! Kids will have the chance to explore different topics through activities taking place in the Market Yard and Culinary Kitchen. All activities will be age appropriate , educational, and most of all, FUN! July 21-24: Fuel and Move With 5SeasonsFit! Julie Parisi, founder of lifestyle and home brand, a casa , will lead a hands-on class all about fresh pasta. In this hands-on class we continue our lesson from Fresh Pasta 101! Attendees will learn how to infuse their pasta dough with various flavors such as spinach and herbs. We will also hand form farfalle (bowtie) pasta shapes. Last, students will learn how to make gnocchi from scratch using traditional tools and methods. Attendees will sample our creations as well as take some fresh pasta home. Plan to bring an apron and to-go containers for your pasta! This will be held in the Culinary Kitchen, within NewBo City Market. All ticket holders receive a coupon for NewBo Beer & Wine. All are welcome to join us at our first Julie's Jamboree at Morgan Creek Park! This family-friendly evening will feature yard games, inflatables, food, music, and 1 mile fun run/walk. All proceeds will go to Friends of Iowa CASA and ICFCRB, a non-profit organization which supports volunteer advocacy programs for children who experience abuse and neglect. At any given time, there are about 900 children in an out-of-home placement - including foster care - in the Eastern Corridor. Iowa's court-appointed special advocates and foster care review board volunteers donate thousands of hours every year to advocate for these vulnerable children as they navigate the juvenile system. Julie's Jamboree is named for Julie Hansen, a long time Cedar Rapids-area CASA volunteer and mentor, who also served as the Friends' Board Vice President. Julie passed away unexpectedly in November 2024, but her legacy lives on in anyone who champions for children.
