Cultural Experiences
Come and join our regular Friday Volunteers to help scythe or rake our grassland. All ages and abilities welcome including those who have experience with scythes. Please bring lunch, a drink and a sunhat. Stay for as long as you like. Please book if you're coming so we have enough tools! Foxearth Meadows sits on the River Stour floodplain in a quiet corner of Essex on the border with Suffolk. The eleven-acre site has a variety of habitats including the river and riverbank, wetlands and woodland, an ancient field boundary, a series of ponds and marshy flower-rich grassland. Managed especially for dragonflies and damselflies, it is also home to a wealth of wildlife including otter, kingfisher, harvest mouse, common lizard, grass snake and common toad. It has been owned and managed by A Rocha UK since 2015. How to find Foxearth Meadows: The reserve is about a mile north of Foxearth village, between the River Stour and the lane north-west of Constable’s Farm and Constables Barn (private dwellings with postcode CO10 7HZ). From Long Melford travelling west towards Clare (A1092), turn first left after GCB Cocoa (formerly Philips Avent), signposted ‘Pentlow Road’. Then take the next left (signposted ‘Liston’) and the reserve is about 200 metres on the left. Follow ‘what3words’ charm.dragonfly.townhouse Grid Ref. Musical Arts
Elana Arian creates an intimate evening of song and story, beginning with Havdalah, at Congregation Beth El. Together we’ll sing, listen, laugh, thrill, and respond to Elana’s extraordinary voice and generous, beautiful sharing of soul as she invites us into her music. “One of the greatest Jewish voices of our time.” - Cantor Aviva Marer A composer, multi-instrumentalist and prayer leader, Elana Arian is one of the leading voices in contemporary Jewish music. Elana’s music is part of Jewish life across the globe, and her compositions are sung in spiritual communities, summer camps, and synagogues from Chicago to the Czech Republic. Elana has released four albums of original music, and her compositions have been published in countless Transcontinental Music collections. Elana serves proudly on the faculty of Hava Nashira (Oconomowoc, WI), the Wexner Heritage Foundation (Aspen, CO), Shirei Chagiga (London, England), and Hebrew Union College in New York, where she teaches in the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music. Elana has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Tanglewood, and perhaps most memorably, five separate appearances at the (Obama) White House. She lives in the Hudson Valley with her wife, Julia, and their two daughters. To learn more about Elana and her music, visit elanaarian.com . Congregation Beth El of the Sudbury River Valley is joyful, participatory Judaism. We sing, learn, laugh, and pray together, and celebrate our varied backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
