10:00 - 16:00, 14th - 18th July Cost: £425 (includes all materials) Tutor: Elaine Speirs Join us for a five-day summer school designed to invigorate your sketchbook practice, whether for portfolio development or personal exploration. Guided by experienced tutor Elaine Speirs, you will engage in painting and drawing from an inspiring range of still-life setups, experimenting with mark-making, composition and expressive techniques. Throughout the week, we will take inspiration from artists such as Berthe Morisot, Monet, Joan Mitchell, Van Gogh, Cézanne and Manet, studying their approaches to sketching and painting. By the end of the course, you will expand your artistic language and visual storytelling, build confidence in mark-making and creative expression, and leave with a dynamic sketchbook full of ideas, studies and small paintings. This course is ideal for artists at all levels looking to develop their sketchbook practice, those building portfolios or exploring new creative directions, and anyone wanting to move beyond description and express ideas through materials. Come get your hands dirty and enjoy a relaxing session in the Heart of Newhaven garden! We’ll take a tour of the space, focus on herbs—planting seeds, doing a bit of garden tidying, picking what’s already growing—and sip on herbal teas made from the garden itself. You’ll also learn about the health benefits of different herbs and how to use them at home. It’s a great way to connect with nature, meet others, and pick up some practical tips!
