Apr 16, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dun Laoghaire
Sports & Fitness
The Safeguarding 1 Online Workshop on 16th April 2024 offers a comprehensive Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course. This 3-hour workshop, conducted online through Zoom, is a mandatory requirement for Coaches, Children's Officers, and Designated Liaison Persons (DLP). The workshop aims to educate participants on the importance of implementing best practices in safeguarding the welfare of children involved in sports. Since 2000, the Sport Ireland Code has been widely adopted and implemented by governing bodies of sports, clubs, local sports partnerships, and community/voluntary groups. This adoption has resulted in the protection of young people and their leaders at grassroots level. It is crucial to provide young people with the necessary knowledge and skills to remain engaged in sports throughout their adult lives. Additionally, it is essential to ensure that their early experiences in sports are positive and enjoyable, regardless of their ability, gender, social class, or race. Adults, both volunteers and professionals, play a significant role in providing these positive experiences by acting as role models when interacting with young people. The work of Children's Officers, both at the club and national level, is particularly instrumental in implementing the Sport Ireland Code. Building on this valuable work will help ensure that all young people view sports and physical activity as important aspects of their lives that they will continue to embrace in adulthood. To participate in the Safeguarding 1 Online Workshop, attendees must have a Zoom account. If you do not have a Zoom account already, you can download the free app from www.zoom.us. Prior to the course, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership will send the Zoom meeting link and all the necessary course materials a few days in advance for security reasons. Please remember not to share this link with anyone else, as only registered participants will be admitted to the scheduled Zoom meeting. By registering for this workshop, your name, email, and D.O.B will be shared with Sport Ireland, as this information is required to produce your certificate of completion. Join us on 16th April 2024 for this important workshop on safeguarding children in sports.
