Concerts
Swing into Christmas with a night of jazz classics, golden age groovers and cool carols, as the Exeter Jazz Orchestra make their triumphant, trumpeting return to Exeter Library with another Swingin' show, following a sell-out performabce last year! Come & join in with a Christmassy tradition that will one day rival paper hats and naff office parties. About the band Founded in 2021 to beat the pandemic blues, this Big Band has gone from 0-60 in no time at all. You may have already caught them filling the high-street with joyful jazz at the Jubilee or playing around in the park at the Respect Festival. About the music Expect a full line up of some of Exeter and Devon’s premier musicians, under the direction of jazz saxophonist Will Paley. From Count Basie and Glenn Miller through to the more modern sounds of Buddy Rich and Gordon Goodwin (and with just about everything else in between!) Plus some festive cheer, and Christmas classics with a twist. You’re sure to hear something that gets you tapping your toes. Come along, bop the night away, beat those winter blues and catch EJO at their jazzy, snazzy best. Doors from 19:30 - the band kicks off at 20:00. There will be pop-up bar serving soft drinks and booze. Tickets for this performance are Pay What You Can Afford, on a sliding scale from £6 - £12. This helps ensure the gig is accessible for more people, and all profits made will go back into both EJO and Libraries Unlimited, a registered charity. Christmas Celebration
Always a winning concert, with a combination of pieces that our audience loves, this concert celebrates the magic of Christmas and brings people together for a sensational evening of wonderful music. Tchaikovsky’s elegant Nutcracker Suite leads on from Brahms’ serious Hungarian Dance No. 5, before Strauss II introduces us to the boundless exuberance of the Polish March in his Trisch-Trasch Polka. In the concert’s penultimate work Tchaikovsky transports the evening to the magical halls of snowy Tsarist Russia with a regal waltz from his ballet Sleeping Beauty. The evening reaches its climax with the famous Blue Danube Waltz, not only proving the crowning jewel of a fabulous night’s worth of music, but the coronation of Johann Strauss II as the master of the Viennese waltz. Programme to include: Strauss - Die Fledermaus Overture Strauss - Trisch-Trasch Polka Tchaikovsky - Sleeping Beauty Waltz Brahms - Hungarian Dance No. 5 Tchaikovsky - Nutcracker Suite Strauss - Blue Danube Information Source: Candlelight Concerts | eventbrite

Arts Opera
It’s Alex’s birthday, but she does not want to go to her birthday party. To get there she has to go through the front door, to the deep puddle at the end of the street, past the scary school gates and by the boring playground with the parents who never do anything fun. And she has to wear her dreaded pink dress, which is no good at all. Alex wants to be a knight, and knights don’t wear pink dresses...do they? Written by Maisie Newman and the students at Phoenix School in Tower Hamlets, Little Terror is an imaginative, interactive and adventure-filled family opera all about finding inner strength and processing your emotions, made with and for Learning Disabled audiences.  This new opera for children and families is directed by Molly Harris Farley (Assistant Director of The Wellies and The Great Stink ) and Noah Mosley ( The Firebird, The Wish Gatherer, Shh We Have a Plan! ) returns to compose. Tickets: £5 for under 18s, £8 for adults, and accompanying carers go free. The show is designed for families, children aged 3 - 7, and Learning Disabled audiences - but all are welcome! ACCESS The show wil take place on the ground floor of Exeter Central Library. There is one large accessible toilet on the same floor, and more upstairs (via lift or stairs.) There is plenty of quiet chilled space that will be accesible to audiences during the show, and audience members can come and go as they please. There will also be a screen with captioning. The Library cafe is closed on Sundays, but you're welcome to bring in your snacks & refreshments. Information Source: Libraries Unlimited | eventbrite

Hello! I'm Fin, a blues-folk musician based in Exeter. I've been hosting gigs in Exeter throughout the year and would love to see you at the last one of 2025 - especially as it's also my birthday! This will be the last gig before I start releasing music from my upcoming E.P, "If Only", starting next year. If you'd like an idea of what I'll be playing, you can find a demo of the title track here: (937) Fintan May - If Only (Day 1 Demo) - YouTube I'm honoured to have the immensely talented Eve Marshall playing an opening set; 'Eve is a blues and soul singer and guitarist rooted in Exeter and Cornwall, sharing her love of music on a small but growing YouTube channel . She’s involved in the local music community through open mic nights and busking' Parking: You can park on campus for free after 6pm - the closest carpark to the Multifaith Chaplaincy Centre is Car Park C, it's a short walk from there down the hill, through the Forum and out the back to the Multifaith building. Doors will open at 6.30pm with Eve's set starting at 7. I'll then begin my set at 8. Thank you so much and look forward to seeing you there! Information Source: Fintan May | eventbrite

How Speed Dating Works in Exeter When you arrive at the Exeter venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date. You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't. At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day. Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches. Post Event No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. You have all day to tick as many people as you like from the night before. We guarantee you will find someone you will want to see again, otherwise we will give you your next Speed Dating event for free!
