Birds and a Brew, What To See In Summer - Nature Discovery Centre, Friday 25 July | Nature Discovery Centre
Jul 25, 2025 (UTC+1)
Thatcham
What to see in Summer
Birds are busy with their young in July, and other wildlife begins to take centre stage. We’ll look at the insects, plants, and juvenile birds, that proliferate in the Summer.
Sessions involve a bird spotting walk which is optional and may vary in duration due to Ailsa’s passion and what we see on the day!
For this reason, we sometimes run on after 2pm, but Ailsa understands that some of you may not wish to stay so please just head off whenever you need to.
Will you help answer nature's SOS call by adding a £5 gift to this booking? You'll help BBOWT bring nature back across our three counties. Please select a donation ticket option if you wish to donate. You can find out more about our Nature Recovery Fund

Eco Floristry Workshop: Summer Spiral Round Bouquet - Nature Discovery Centre, Wednesday 30 July | Nature Discovery Centre
Jul 30, 2025 (UTC+1)
Thatcham
This half-day course will give you hands-on experience of foraging and preparing seasonal ingredients to create a gorgeous professional-looking bouquet.
The term ‘round’ is used loosely here, as Kathryn’s floristry style revels in following any weird and wonderfully shaped stems rather than striving for a neat and uniform final design. However, this technique creates a roughly dome shaped bouquet that is visually attractive from all sides. And if you wish yours to be perfectly round, you can make it so! The ‘spiral’ described is the satisfyingly uniform way the stems rest against one another, assisting the structural integrity of your bouquet and giving it a professional finish.
Immerse your senses in summer at the reserve and receive friendly, expert tuition from Kathryn of local eco-florist
Green Feather Flowers
in creating a unique and beautiful botanical reflection of the season to take home.

Mindfulness in Nature: Restorative Outdoor Experience - Nature Discovery Centre, Saturday 12 July (Afternoon) | Nature Discovery Centre
Jul 12, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Thatcham
Connect with nature using all of your senses, unplug from the rush of modern life and tune in to the therapeutic qualities of the landscape during this session which aims to restore your calm and wellbeing with mindful movement, and nature-based activities.
Jo Tytherleigh will lead you through the landscape, skilfully guiding you to practice mindfulness by noticing both the minutiae and the vastness of your environment. Walking in natural environments and ‘holding a soft fascination’, is an evidence-based practice that connects us to feel the deep healing power of nature.
In this afternoon session we will spend time outside in guided moving meditation through the landscape. We’ll include playful breathwork, embodied movement and visualisation, giving you time to ‘just be’ in this beautiful peaceful area and to drink in your surroundings and relax. When we connect to our wilder side, we can feel fully re-energised and ready to take on the world again. This session connects beautifully with our afternoon session for those who would like a full day of relaxation.
Jo Tytherleigh has practised Yoga and meditation for 30 years. She lives on a small farm in Cornwall where she grows food for her local community. Here she teaches farm to table workshops, promoting local, seasonal food, helping people understand the deep connections between soil health, biodiversity and human health.
