Tintoretto’s Genesis | Cincinnati Art Museum
Apr 18–Aug 31, 2025 (UTC-5)
Cincinnati
In the early 1550s, Jacopo Tintoretto (1518–1594) made a series of large paintings depicting scenes from the Book of Genesis for the Scuola della Trinità, a charitable organization in Venice. Painted just as the artist was coming into his maturity, these canvases display a fusion of Michelangelo’s forceful conception of the figure, Titian’s renowned colorism, and Tintoretto’s own vigorous brushwork, dynamic compositions, and command of the workshop system. The paintings mark the beginning of Tintoretto’s rise as the powerhouse of Venetian Renaissance painting—a position he would hold for the next four decades.

Film Screening: Eight Men Out from Cindependent Film Festival | Contemporary Arts Center

Cincinnati
Event Timeline
6:30pm - Doors open
7pm - Film
Eight Men Out (1988)
John Sayle's 1988 drama, Eight Men Out is tied to Cincinnati in multiple ways. Scandal-notwithstanding, the film depicts the Cincinnati Reds' first World Series Championship, over the Chicago White Sox in 1919. And in a bit of cinema-trickery, which has since become quite common for Cincinnati as a film city, Director Sayles dressed up the 1980's OTR neighborhood to play early 20th century Chicago in the film. Cindependent is proud to partner with the Cincinnati Reds to present this significant memento of Cincinnati sports and film history.
Synopsis:
The Chicago White Sox, who are set to play the Cincinnati Reds in the World Series of 1919, are at odds with their team's owner, Charles Comiskey (Clifton James), who pays his players unsatisfactory wages despite the team's popularity. As the World Series approaches, a group of professional gamblers offers the Sox's best athletes a fortune to throw the series.
