Operating in a dynamic and turbulent age, the relationship between the Temperance reforming father and his more business orientated son was not exactly plain sailing either. Originally from Melbourne (no, not the lesser known one in Australia), he moved to Leicester, and became an active member of the Temperance movement. His first package event was transporting Temperance campaigners from Leicester to Loughborough, along with a band to provide entertainment along the way.
