We provide 3 pots, 2 for raku firing and 1 for obvara. You get to use our fab range of raku glazes including metallics and various coloured crackle glazes. We will also show you resist techniques using tape and stickers. Then we fire the pots in a kiln for around 25 minutes before taking them out at 1000 degrees c and placing them in a sawdust bin. The smoke highlights the crazed and the reduction atmosphere will bring out golds, coppers and bronzes. When they’re a bit cooler we wash them down in water and they’re ready to take away by the end of the session. The next part of the session will use a flour or milk mix to make smoke and carbon patterns on the side of a bisque fired pot that’s been fired again in the kiln up to around 900 degrees c. We show you waxing and finishing options to make your pot look and smell gorgeous! You must wear long sleeves, sensible shoes and trousers. Wear old clothes that you don’t mind smelling of smoke and be prepared for all weathers as this workshop is held outdoors. Jarrow Crusade - Walking Tour WA | Jarrow Town Hall

Meet at the Charles Palmer statue opposite Jarrow Town Hall and finish at the pedestrian tunnel entrance in Jarrow. In October 1936 200 men marched from Jarrow to London carrying a petition on a crusade for work. The Crusade covered 282 miles and took 26 days to complete. The marchers aimed to arrive in Westminster at the opening of Parliament, where they would present a petition signed by 12,000 residents of Jarrow. This walk will tell the story of that march, not a hunger march but a delegation to show that Jarrow needed work, it was a crusade for jobs. If you are a 2025 season ticket holder, remember you MUST bring along your ticket or you will be asked to pay for your tour. Tour lasts approx 1.5hrs Assistance dogs only. No other pets allowed. Safety Information To attend our walks you need to be reasonably fit, prepared to be responsible for your own safety, and to supervise any children in your care. Appropriate clothing and footwear is recommended. A bottle of water, an umbrella and an extra layer wouldn't go amiss. The British weather is notoriously changeable! Newcastle is an historic city with uneven pavements and narrow passages add to its unique character. There are also often steps to navigate. Our walks take approximately 90 minutes, are you comfortable walking and standing for that length of time? If there’s any activity you are unable to do or if you have a concern, please contact us at newcastlecityg@gmail.com before booking. We try to stick to footpaths and use pedestrian crossings where available. If you have any pre-medical conditions or injuries that may affect you walking or feel unwell during a walk, please let your Guide know. Standard Disclaimer Your participation in the guided walk is at your own risk and we shall not be held liable under any circumstances for any matter arising out of your participation. We accept no responsibility or liability for loss or injury (other than for matters for which we are not legally able to exclude or limit liability). We have public liability insurance.
