Whisby Dragonfly Day: Pond Dipping Activities | Whisby Education Centre

Thorpe on the Hill
Cultural Experiences
This activity is part of our Dragonfly Day activities, celebrating Whisby's designation as a Dragonfly Hotspot by the British Dragonfly Society. Before reaching adulthood, dragonflies spend their younger years as Nymphs underwater, feeding on many things from invertebrates and tadpoles to baby fish. To find them, we will have to go pond dipping. We'll use nets to catch various freshwater creatures and bring them into water trays on the shoreline to find out what we've caught. With persistance and a little luck, we may find some Dragonfly Nymphs. Due to proximity to water, only people aged 5years and older will be allowed to approach the water and do the pond dipping . Any younger siblings will have to wait onshore for the catch to be brought up. Other activities are available throughout the Dragonfly Day event, including various crafts, so there is something for all the family to enjoy. All other activities are available by donation. Pond Dipping activities will be available in booked time slots. Once you've booked onto a timeslot, you must attend that slot only. Other slots may be fully booked and we cannot guarantee you an alternate place. The available slots are; 1:30pm - 2pm 2pm - 2:30pm 2:30pm - 3pm 3pm - 3:30pm Each ticket is valid for 6 people total (up to 2 adults and up to 4 children). As activities will be based at Whisby Education Centre, dogs will not be allowed in the grounds during the event. Information Source: Whisby Nature Park | eventbrite
