NEW TOUR - University of Leeds Heritage Pub and History Walk | Parkinson Steps, University of Leeds

Jun 8, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Woodhouse
Cultural Experiences
Starting at the iconic entrance of the University of Leeds, this three-hour tour is run by It's The Beer Talking, a new business established by beer writer Simon Jenkins and event organiser and former Tetley's PR officer Nicky Massen. New for 2025, our second route will begin on the Parkinson Steps, beneath the famous Portland stone tower of the University of Leeds. This tour will reveal some remarkable campus stories: controversial artworks, the astonishing Brotherton Library, the original Victorian buildings of the red-brick university - and the ambitious architectural plans which once threatened to smother the whole site in brutalist concrete. We visit a selection of pubs along the way, to sample some of the best beers our city has to offer and learn something about how brewing and drinking have played their part in Leeds life for centuries. Read some great reviews from Leeds Confidential and Leeds List - and watch this Leeds List video! Tickets, priced £20, are strictly limited, so please book online, but we will accept payment on the day, if places are still available. The cost does not include beer - participants are free to choose their drinks at each of our four pub stops. For more details visit www.itsthebeertalking.co.uk/its-the-beer-walking/ We will also accept payment by card or cash before the walk – but places are strictly limited, so please book in advance to guarantee your place. A LSO - if you can't make this date or time, but would still like to have one of our tours, please get in touch and we'll do our very best to accommodate you: Call Nicky Massen: 07876 055354 or email: cheers@itsthebeertalking.co.uk Information Source: It's The Beer Talking | eventbrite

Davis Rogan - New Orleans Rhythm and blues | The Needle & Pin

Loughborough
Concerts
Davis Rogan - New Orleans Rhythm and blues With a personality and stage presence even bigger than his 6'4" frame, New Orleans native Davis Rogan cannot be encapsulated by mere words on a page. However, if you desire a hint of the flavor of his signature sound, you might try: • a base of classic New Orleans rhythm and blues after the styles of Professor Longhair and Fats Domino; • a hearty seasoning earned by a lifetime listening to, befriending, learning from and performing with New Orleans greats such as Kermit Ruffins, John Boutte, Lionel Batiste, Kirk Joseph and Shannon Powell; • a soupcon of Randy Newmanesque irony and self-deprecation. Women Only Walk | Beacon Hill and Windmill Hill | LEICESTERSHIRE | Beacon Hill

Jun 14, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Loughborough
Cultural Experiences
Meeting at the Beacon Hill Cafe, we'll start our walk by climbing to the trig point at the top of Beacon Hill, which offers 360 degree views of the local area. We'll then head over to Windmill Hill, where the stone base of a former mill, built in 1863, is also home to a viewpoint looking over the Soar Valley. The final section is in The Outwoods, a Nature Reserve and one of the oldest woodlands in the local area. Distance: 13km / 8 miles Time: 5-6 hours Elevation: 350 metres / 1150 feet Grade: Intermediate - Find out more about our grades here . Terrain: Grass and gravel paths Who will be your guide? For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Megan Endean (endean_mountaineering on Instagram), and I’m a Mountain Leader, based in the Midlands but I grew up in Devon. My hobby (obsession!?) with being outdoors started with my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh, and I’ve never looked back. I’m passionate about improving accessibility to the outdoors, and aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment to all. I look forward to meeting you! Transport We will meet at the Beacon Hill Lower Car Park HERE . By Car: The car park is pay on exit and costs £5 for the day. Contactless payment is available. We encourage car sharing as much as possible. By train/bus: the 154 bus stops in Woodhouse Eaves and is then a 0.6mile walk to the start point. Liftshare: It would be great to liftshare as much as possible. Lifts can be arranged via the WhatsApp group here. What to bring: Walking boots or sturdy shoes/trainers Lunch and snacks I always like to take a flask of tea, but that’s entirely optional Rucksack Water (I'd recommend 2 litres) Waterproofs if rain is forecast Sunhat/suncream if it's due to be sunny. Terrain: The majority of the walk is on grass paths and gravel tracks. It may be slightly muddy depending on the amount of rain in the days leading up to the walk. Toilets: There are free toilets at the beginning of the hike, with additional toilets in The Outwoods, but apart from that you will have to embrace what we like to call a 'wild wee'! Luckily, the walk has a few hidden spots for this. If you need to go, just tell someone in the group and hang back for some privacy. Consent Form: If you are booked onto the hike please fill in a consent form no later than the night before. You will not be allowed to partake in the hike unless you have filled out this form. An email will be sent closer to the event with details. Safety: I like to make these hikes as enjoyable as possible for everyone, so I keep a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on these hikes, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns - I'd be happy to chat through any worries before you sign up to the hike. I am a fully qualified Mountain Leader and I am level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so I will be on hand in case of an emergency. I am also a Mental Health First Aider. Dogs: Well behaved dogs are welcome on my hikes, but be aware that there are sometimes sheep and other livestock in the area - including llamas! Refund Policy: Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled. If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let me know if you do so. Terms: By signing up to this event, you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions. This event is for over 18's only. Information Source: The Adventure Girls Club | eventbrite

About the event Let's Play The Piano is open to all and great opportunity to practice performing regardless of ability, experience or musical style. Playing is optional however, non-pianists are welcome to enjoy the music. Maybe you're thinking of learning the piano and would like to find out more. It's also great way to make new friends! We have the venue from 1.45pm-5:00pm so you're welcome to arrive as early as you wish in time for our 2:30pm start .
