Birding Walk and Restoration Work Party at Brewer Wetland | Walla Walla High School
May 3, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Walla Walla East
Blue Mountain Land Trust (BMLT) is offering a special day of birding and restoration at Brewer Wetland, one of our protected properties! This is your chance to explore a unique landscape not usually open to the public, spot local and migratory birds, and lend a hand to the land.
Join us on Saturday, May 3rd, for a guided birding walk with expert insights followed by a hands-on restoration work party. Whether you’re interested in birdwatching or helping with restoration activities including removing invasive species and fencing around established trees, you’re welcome to join us for one or both parts of the event.
This wetland habitat is a rare and important habitat in the Blue Mountains! Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems in the world, providing benefits including water filtration, carbon storage, and critical wildlife habitat. For migratory birds, wetlands are vital pitstops, offering safe havens for nesting, feeding, and resting during their long migrations. By protecting and restoring this important area, we’re ensuring it continues to provide vital ecological services and support diverse plant and animal species. Mike started his career as a client, not a lawyer. He represented the same company where he worked in management, thus “walking both sides of the street.” As a lawyer, Mike had devoted his practice to practical, results-oriented advice and litigation representation in situations where the law, facts, or business risks are ambiguous.
Mike’s practice is devoted to advising cooperatives, food, and agriculture businesses. He is firm-wide co-chair of the 200-lawyer Food, Beverages & Agriculture industry group. He acts as outside general counsel in that industry, handles corporate governance, and manages complicated domestic and international transactions.
On the business side, Mike developed Dorsey’s LegalMine Document Review Solution from concept to operation. He has also held leadership roles as Office Head for Seattle (where he negotiated a large office move, and the office was named one of Washington’s Best Workplaces) and as co-head of the Labor & Employment and other practice groups.

North Fork Umatilla Trail - Coyote Creek Reroute Backcountry Work Party | 1415 W Rose St
May 18, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Walla Walla East
Join the BMLT Blues Crew for a 4-day, 3-night backcountry trail work party on the North Fork Umatilla Trail and Coyote Creek!
Last year volunteers built a new bridge across Coyote Creek up the North Fork Umatilla Trail. The completion of this project requires a reroute to connect the new crossing to the old trail. The work will include building a new turnpike to elevate the trail, clearing brush, and building new tread. Volunteers will also remove and camouflage the old trail we plan to replace. If time permits, we will head up the trail to clear treefall from the winter. All work will be done inside of wilderness areas, so power tools are not permitted.
Be a part of this exciting volunteer opportunity, especially when public lands need it most! If you can make it the entire trip, GREAT. If you can only do one day, please indicate that when you sign up and reach out to
craig@bmlt.org
to coordinate. We'll have fun, work hard and make a difference. No experience is necessary.
