Exciting news! Centra Run Together is back in October with an event that’s better than ever! Lace up your running shoes and join us on Sunday, 19th October, at Ormeau Park in Belfast for an unforgettable 5K and 10K charity event. Not only will you have a blast getting fit, but you’ll also be supporting Action Cancer and helping keep its mobile detection unit, the Big Bus, on the road. Centra Run Together has been going from strength to strength since 2016, raising a total amount of £129,516 which has enabled Action Cancer to provide over 2,500 health checks for men and women across Northern Ireland. Action Cancer also delivers breast screening to women outside of NHS screening age and skin cancer detection assessments. Our rescheduled event in April, welcomed 1,600 participants to Ormeau Park and has so far raised a phenomenal £26,000 for Action Cancer, with funds still coming in! With your help, we hope to surpass this figure at the October event and continue to support the Big Bus and the lifesaving services it provides in our local communities. For a small entry fee, with every penny going directly to Action Cancer, you'll get a whole lot more than just a race. Every participant will receive a free T-shirt, a goodie bag, a bespoke Centra Run Together medal, a free lunch, and a delicious Frank and Honest Coffee. Plus, enjoy food samples including Moo’d Ice Cream and much more. And don’t forget the fantastic family entertainment! Mark your calendars for Sunday, 19th October, and join us at Ormeau Park for a day filled with fun, fitness, and community atmosphere. Concerts Classical
This September, Sestina Music presents a programme of motets by two German masters, written over 150 years apart. Bach's Motets represent the pinnacle of polyphonic choral composition, featuring eight virtuosic vocal lines weaved into a thrilling, dramatic and beautiful texture. In these concerts, three of Bach's monumental motets are heard alongside two sets of unaccompanied eight-part motets by Brahms, where the composer's rich and expressive harmonic language is used to full effect. Although separated by nearly two centuries, these pieces share much of their musical language and heritage, and the immediacy and expressive potential of both composers' work means they are as vibrant and as colourful as ever. Featuring a consort of world-class singers and players from across Ireland and the UK with guest director Malachy Frame, this event presents a rare opportunity to hear these incredible works live in concert, and is not to be missed. We live in a world which is saturated and overwhelmed by information and moving images. How do we make sense of anything? How do we construct narratives in the wake of such overwhelming info? How do we know which conspiracies are theories and which conspiracies are fact? In two years of Normal Cinema Club, we have put together the pieces and noticed a trend. Featuring work from friends of the club, old and new, this will be a night about pulling on threads and falling down rabbitholes. Featuring films about internet cultures, online brain rot, being doompilled but also being straight-up curious about the world around us, Normal Cinema Club is proud to present an evening of short films which respond to our current state of overstimulation. Featuring: A mother’s love for her baby - Cáit and Éiméar McClay Cluster - Éanna Mac Cana Fences of Tamarisi - Nat Rowbotham I think your sexy Michael - Katie Quinn Maximum Human Potential - Duffy Bros The Reinvention of Marker - Rory Carroll There’s No Drugs in Animal Crossing - Cate Cheung-McMullan TurmOil - Daragh O’Shea And perhaps even more… This screening will take place in the Green Room at the Black Box. Doors will open at 6.30pm, with the first films beginning shortly after 7pm. The films will be presented in two blocks, with an intermission for comfort, refreshment and fervent debate. This is a strictly 18+ event. Normal Cinema Club is supported by FilmHubNI, and wishes to thank the Black Box for their help and Conall McCauley for his artwork. Since the publication of Maria Edgeworth’s Castle Rackrent in 1800, the familiar image of the Irish country house has been one of dishevelment and decay. However, in recent decades an alternative vision has come to the fore: one of rescue, restoration and renewal. Historic houses across Ireland are being rediscovered and brought back to life as family homes. Join author and architectural historian Robert O’Byrne for an exploration of some of these properties and the stories of their decline and recovery. Currently a doctoral student at Trinity College Dublin, Robert O’Byrne is a writer and lecturer specialising in the fine and decorative arts, and the author of more than a dozen books. A former Vice-President of the Irish Georgian Society, he is trustee of several charitable organisations including the Apollo Foundation. For fourteen years he wrote a monthly column for Apollo magazine, and he has also contributed to The Burlington Magazine and the Irish Arts Review . Since 2012 Robert has written an award-winning blog, www.theirishaesthete.com and last year he produced a collection of his own photographs: The Irish Aesthete: Buildings of Ireland, Lost and Found . His most recent book is The Irish Country House: A New Vision , published by Rizzoli. Tickets are available through Eventbrite and must be purchased before the event. Members: £12 Non-members: £15. Returning to the studio for this LP with longtime producer Ted Hutt ( Dropkick Murphys , Flogging Molly , The Gaslight Anthem ), the band have laid down a collection of songs that fuse their varied influences brilliantly – from the boogie-woogie shuffle roots of original 50s rock ’n roll, to the strutting swagger of 70s glam & “bovver rock,” to the gritty rabble-rousing of ’77 style anthemic street punk – into a laser-tight, cohesive sound that is unmistakably theirs. Blue Rose Code Special Guest To Be Announced Fitzroy Presbyterian Church University St, Belfast BT7 1HL Doors - 6.45pm // Price - £22.50+bf Starts 7.30pm www.bluerosecode.com www.musiccapital.org ••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Blue Rose Code come into 2025 with a fresh wind in their sails. The last year saw sparkling reviews in the national press for award winning album, 'Bright Circumstance', radio play on BBC R2 & R6 as well as an appearance on the R4 institution 'Loose Ends'. Folk album of the year with 5-stars in the Scotsman, their song 'Sadie' nominated for Song Of The Year at the Americana awards, a headline Sunday night closing slot at the legendary Cambridge Folk Festival, 2024 was a great year. Adding to that, Ross Wilson is now an in demand co-writer, with one of his songs written with legend Steve Knightley appearing on Knightley's brand new record. The plan for this year is to take duo shows out across the UK and Ireland, to smaller venues, workshopping songs for a new record and performing music from the BRC canon. Just read the quotes, they're no joke, from The Times, Uncut, The Spectator. No gimmicks here. No smoke and mirrors and no mistake. In the words of Americana UK - 'One of the country’s best live acts right now! Get out and see them wherever you can!' ‘ A set of almost religious intensity and sincerity. Wilson makes widescreen soul in the spirit of Van Morrison, and was full of the holy fire of live performance.’ – The Times ‘ Ravishingly beautiful, a burnished blaze of Caledonian Soul, muted jazz and poetic recitation’ – UNCUT ‘ Jubilant, prayerful, compassionate, Caledonian soul maestro Ross Wilson’s latest iteration of his Blue Rose Code band sees his songs bursting with heart’ – The Scotsman ‘ An expert ensemble, led by Edinburgh singer-songwriter Ross Wilson, brought the spontaneity and informality of an after-hours pub session to the Pavilion Theatre. The effect was both stirring and meditative.’ – The Spectator Information Source: Music Capital | eventbrite

The most recent death is John Anderson once of Glentoran and then Ards, whilst Billy Emerson, part of Glentoran’s famed half-back line of Emerson, Scraggs and Ferritt, will also feature. The tour will also include David Lyner and Alfie Snape who were both on the books of Manchester United the latter now lying in an unmarked grave, brothers Tom & Willie Gordon who played in the 1894 Irish Cup Final, the recently restored grave of Johnny Houston, and the final resting place of Roy Stewart who died on 6th March 1974 just hours after the final whistle of the Glens’ home clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the first leg of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup Quarter Final.
