We will drive about 1 hour north of Saskatoon on highway 11 to reach Duck Lake town. Here we will drive the roads through the fields south of the town in search of Bobolinks, Western Meadowlarks, Le Conte's, Nelson's, Song, Savannah and Clay-colored Sparrows and Sedge Wrens. Along the margins of Duck Lake, we will watch for American Avocet, Spotted Sandpiper, Willet, Wilson's Phalarope, Red-winged and Yellow-headed Blackbirds, Common Yellowthroats and listen for Soras. We will use a spotting scope to view ducks and grebes out on the lake. We should find Eared and Pied-billed Grebes, Canada Geese, Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler and Northern Pintail. A stop near Duck Lake's sewage lagoons may yield several diving ducks including Redhead, Canvasback and Lesser Scaup plus American Coot, Eastern Kingbird and Common Grackle and Franklin's Gulls. Stops at other nearby ponds may yield Red-necked Grebe, Horned Grebe, Marbled Godwit, Ring-necked Ducks and Bufflehead. Later we will make roadside stops in the Nisbet Forest north of Duck Lake where we will look and listen for Broad-winged Hawk Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Lark Sparrow, Eastern Phoebe, Red-eyed Vireo, Blue-headed Vireo, Veery, Swainson's and Hermit Thrushes, Ovenbird, American Redstart, Yellow-rumped Warbler and possibly Black-throated Green Warblers. Stops by forest lakes might produce a Common Loon or Trumpeter Swan. We will return to Saskatoon via highway 11. Join us for this leisurely driving tour. Great for a family outing. During this Duck Lake and Nisbet Forest birding tour, your leader will identify the birds and set up a spotting scope allowing you to get the best view of the birds. Both novice and experienced bird watchers are welcome. Can you survive the Zombie Apocalypse? Saskatoon Zombie Scavenger tests your ability to survive after a zombie apocalypse. The game leads you through the city, where you will have 60 minutes to collect supplies to survive during this interactive scavenger game. With the whole world in chaos and zombies outnumbering the living 10 to 1, small colonies of the living are doing all they can to survive. Using your smartphone, your team will be tasked with scavenging the city for food, supplies, weapons, and shelter. The more things you find, the more points you get, the more likely you are to survive. Along the way, you will be asked to do a challenge or answer a trivia question in order to be rewarded with virtual weapons to ward off the zombies. The area is crawling with relentless zombies, and rival colonies are moving in. If you get too relaxed, rival colonies will take what you worked hard to find. The goal is to find all of the items in hopes that you will survive the zombie apocalypse. Scavenger Rules: In 1 hour your team of up to 10 people will use a smartphone to search the area for much -needed food, supplies, and shelter. The more things you find in the 1 hour, the more points you get and the more likely you would be a survivor. The task will not be easy. Along the way, you will be asked to do some challenges or answer some trivia questions. The goal is to get at least 4000 points in 1 hour in order to survive the zombie apocalypse! The Ticket price covers the participation of 1 team (up to 10 people). Add as many teams as you need. Start your game at any time between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Want to give this experience as a gift? Vocal Technique Workshop and One-Day Choir with Danny Fong Have you ever wanted to learn about your instrument from a professional, contemporary vocal coach? How about singing in harmony with no long-term commitment? How about BOTH in the same evening? This workshop is designed to level-up your singing, even if you've never sung in a choir or taken a lesson in your life. If you're feeling a little shy or anxious.. rest assured, you will not be put on the spot, or asked to sing or demonstrate anything alone! I'm Danny Fong, an artist born and raised in Saskatoon who has spent the last 18 years based in Toronto. During this time I've been touring and performing in 20+ countries, headlining festivals, teaching contemporary vocal technique as a professional vocal coach, releasing 6 albums, garnering millions of views on YouTube and writing hundreds of vocal arrangements for choirs around the world. I'm currently the choir conductor at Centennial Collegiate as well. You can learn more about me at dannyfong.ca . Here's a little snippet of the Centennial choir. I was offered the position just a couple months ago: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/OqkDAPsrC-8 I am so excited to build community here in Saskatoon and to connect with you. Whether you're a casual singer in a choir or karaoke league, an aspiring professional or somewhere in between .. I have hopes to create more singing events that will excite you ! They could be more-advanced technique workshops, one-day choirs, live-band karaoke events, songwriting or harmonizing, performing and stage presence (or ideas you may have too)! This is my first official event and spaces are limited! My ultimate goal is to create a loving and supportive community of likeminded singing, harmony and music lovers who are interested in events that don't require any major commitment . WHAT TO EXPECT: Part 1: Vocal Technique . This event is going to be similar to the "first vocal lesson" I give all my private students. A complete overview of the instrument and our anatomy, how to use it optimally without tension, how to project like a soloist and how to take your practice to the next level. In short, to give you the knowledge, information and language so you know how to do things correctly. You will leave this workshop a "more-informed singer" so you can practice/perform consciously, knowing what aspects to focus on. Part 2 : One-Day Choir . Danny will lead you in group harmony singing by rote. No sheet music required. No prior experience singing in harmony required. Danny has led workshops around the world and this workshop is the first step in building a regular event in Saskatoon. We'll conclude the session with some social time - I'd love to meet other like-minded musical people from around the city (of all ages!). I am truly seeking to integrate my professional practice into your lives and make meaningful events that you'll be excited to attend in the future. I hope to learn more about what would excite you so I can cater my future events to your desires. I would be eternally grateful if you shared this event with singing folks in your life and join my mailing list so I can keep you posted about upcoming events. (Your email will never be shared and I will not send out newsletters or other junk). I just want to make music with YOU, in person. Danny's Mailing List *Please Note: While this event is listed for "All ages", I think the technique workshop may be too intellectual for most kids under the age of 10. That does not mean they are not welcome! This event is an inclusive and safe space for all humans <3. Information Source: Danny Fong | eventbrite
