Join NishkamSWAT's Snowdon Trek to Raise Funds , the highest mountain in Wales, to help raise funds to buy a FibroScan Machine for Liver Disease Awareness and Early Detection! We’re inviting you to take on an exciting challenge to support a cause close to our hearts. Join us as we climb Snowdon , the highest mountain in Wales, to help raise funds for a FibroScan Machine to aid in liver disease awareness and early detection. Let’s make a difference together! The Trek: Enjoy the breathtaking views and fresh mountain air as we make our way up Snowdon. This challenge is suitable for all fitness levels, with a steady pace and a mix of well-maintained paths and some more challenging terrain. Once we reach the peak (1,085 meters/3,560 feet), you'll be rewarded with incredible panoramic views a perfect moment to reflect on the journey and the cause. We’ll be using the Llanberis Path Route for our ascent. (Postcode for Sat Nav: LL55 4TD) Trek Essentials: Registration Fee : £50 (includes transport from NishkamSWAT HQ, Hayes UB4 0JT) Fundraising Target : Minimum £200 each Date : 26th July 2025 The Cause: We are raising funds for the Amrik Singh Rai Liver Screening Campaign , which aims to provide FibroScan screenings to those at risk of liver disease. This campaign was started in memory of Amrik Singh Rai , who tragically passed away from liver cancer in June 2024. His story highlights the importance of early detection, as liver disease often remains undiagnosed until it’s too late. Liver disease is often called a "silent killer" because many don’t experience symptoms until damage is already severe. FibroScan is a simple, non-invasive scan that can detect liver damage before symptoms appear, allowing for early intervention and better health outcomes. How We’re Making a Difference: Liver Screening Clinics : Bringing FibroScan screenings to underserved communities, helping people understand their liver health and take early action. Community Education : Raising awareness about liver disease and its risk factors, including obesity, diabetes, and alcohol use. FibroScan is a quick, painless procedure where a small probe measures liver stiffness and fat content. The results are available immediately, and if liver damage is detected, early action can be life-saving. How You Can Help: By joining our trek and fundraising, you’re helping us provide FibroScan screenings to people who can’t afford them. Your support is critical in preventing liver disease from becoming life-threatening for many. Event Day Details: Departure : We’ll leave from NishkamSWAT HQ in Hayes (UB4 0JT) at 04:00 AM and aim to return by 10:00 PM the same day. Travel Arrangements : Please be mindful that public transport may not be available if we return late, so make necessary arrangements for your journey home. What to Expect: Distance : Approximately 9 miles, ascending to 3,199ft Climb : The route includes a mix of steady inclines and rougher terrain. You’ll be walking for around 5-7 hours. Toilets : There are toilets at the visitir centre. Health and Safety : We’ll have experienced guides with you at all times to ensure your safety and comfort. Preparation: To ensure you’re ready for the trek, we recommend doing some long-distance walks in the lead-up to the event. While the trek is manageable, a good level of fitness will help you enjoy the challenge! Key Recommendations: Equipment : Carry a map and compass , wear suitable hiking boots with thick soles and high sides, and bring waterproof layers to prepare for any weather conditions. Weather and Conditions : Always check the latest weather forecasts before your trip, as mountain weather can change rapidly. Skills and Knowledge : Ensure your fitness level matches the hike’s demands and familiarize yourself with the route and navigation techniques. Additionally, the Visit Wales website offers valuable safety advice for exploring national parks, emphasising the importance of preparation and awareness. You can find more details here: Visit Wales - Snowdon Safety Advice Additional Information: Unsure About Your Ability to Do the Trek? If you’re uncertain about your fitness level or whether the trek is suitable for you, we strongly recommend consulting your doctor before registering. Your health and safety are our top priority! Snacks : Snacks such as water and energy bars will be provided throughout the day to keep you energised. However, please bring a backpack to carry any additional essentials, including your lunch for the day. We recommend sandwiches, cold pasta, or other easy-to-carry foods. We’ll be stopping for regular breaks on the trek and on the coach to ensure everyone stays refreshed. How to Register: Step 1 : Sign up through our registration page.
